Dr. Denver D. Roos 68 longtime Corona physician died in Riverside Hospital after cancer treatment and a coma. Born 1897 in Dunbar Nebraska he practiced in Corona since 1927 and became a noted cardiology and X ray expert.

Anaheim Escondido winners at Corona Invitational Band Jamboree

The 11th annual Corona Invitational Band Jamboree drew over 1000 people at Corona Senior High. Anaheim High School won large school division and sweepstakes, Escondido High took small school division, with Eisenhower San Bernardino second in small and Loara third in large. Hosts Corona Senior High and others performed non competitively.

Lovell Dons Longjohns in Space with Borman Duo

Gemini 7 astronauts James Lovell and Frank Borman eased out of their 16 pound pressure suits and rode in their underwear in the capsule on the mission. They were awakened to sleep simultaneously for the first time by American spacemen. Lovell began the unbuttoned exploration as control cleared the maneuver.

The Soviet Luna 8 spacecraft advances toward the moon aiming for a soft landing in the Sea of Storms area. Tass reports the mission to place instruments and survey the lunar surface as a prelude to manned flight.

Burglaries Hit Two Model Homes in Husted Park Tract

Police report two Color Craft model show homes in Husted Park Tract, Anaheim, were robbed of about $1,000 in furnishings with no forced entry. The same suspects are suspected as the two breaks appear identical. Losses at 1287 Kelley and 1283 Kelley totaled about $400 and $600 respectively. Items missing include lamps, bedding, pillows, pictures, a vase, and towels.

Stones roll em over concert ends tour in LA

Ninteen teen girls fainted and fifteen others treated for hysteria as the Rolling Stones wrapped a six week American tour at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles. Two teens suffered cuts from projectiles while Mick Jagger was struck on the head with a compact but not injured. Receipts for the show neared 74000 with a 2 million gross for the 35 city tour. The group planned to stay in Hollywood about a week to discuss movie and recording deals.

DeGaulle faces runoff bid after French vote setback

Paris President Charles de Gaulle shows a glum mood after failing to reach 50 percent in the first ballot. Francois Mitterrand, backed by leftists, trails him in a tight three-way race as Lecanuet follows. Official counts show De Gaulle at 44.64 percent with about half ballots counted.
