Superior Judge G R Freeman extends the second portion of the Cajutco condemnation suit from December 7 to 15 as motions for a new trial near completion. A jury will hear carob lands in the Cajalco retarding basin area of the Metropolitan aqueduct. Arthur A Weber MWD attorney has opened the new trial argument, with Donald M Keith aqueduct counsel offering authorities for reconsideration of property valued at 500000 dollars plus interest.
A.G. Brennels, Supervisor, says Christmas tree cutting on Government land in the Cleveland National Forest is not allowed. Residents should not seek permits here, while Northern California forests issue permits and allow sales. Rangers supervise thinning operations. Red Fir is scarce here and high prices are paid in eastern markets.
Mrs Irene Campbell of 1002 Victoria street injured her left ankle in Riverside after an auto crash involving Opal Hitchcock and Paul K Buckley. Early Sunday two more accidents on Jurupa avenue north of Corona injured John W Wilson and Joaquin Garcia, with Cornelio Romero reported unconscious. Garcia faces possible DUI charges.
The earthen fill and dike for the Cajalco reservoir near the western border of the 242 mile aqueduct from the Parker dam was announced as completed yesterday at the Los Angeles office of the Metropolitan Water District. The reservoir will hold 32 billion gallons and create a lake several miles long. The Grimm Construction Co built it. LITIGATION over use of the area continues in superior court with condemnation proceedings still pending.
Four men from Arizona who visited plant physiologist A. D. Shamel in Riverside were brought to Corona by Shamel to inspect the new air conditioned lemon storage room at the American Fruit Growers plant.
State Senator John Phillips of Banning after a European trip told a Riverside meeting of the Associated Farmers of Riverside county that last year lemon production totaled only three carloads.
Roy BelRuth film producer HOLLY WOCK- Roy BelRuth was cleared as responsible in a $60,000 claim. Judge Turney Fox dismissed NelRuth as co defendant in the suit filed by former employee Clemmie Ramey who said Mia Del Ruth knocked her down and kicked her during a telephone dispute.
Riverside county meat stock is estimated at over 3200 head per year as Grange and Farm Bureau members meet to outline a community slaughter house. R. R. Lang presides in West Riverside with seven of eleven members present. James D. Trammell notes cooperative slaughter houses pay higher prices and spur local industry. A licensed, modern facility will be built for the west end, serving wholesale customers only. Financing details to be announced at the next farmers meeting. A second committee meeting will review site options before the full membership reconvenes. Livestock ranchers are urged to report estimated production.
Mr and Mrs LG L Andrews and Mr and Mrs Frank Johnson with Miss Lois Johnson attend the Imperial Highway association meeting in El Centro Saturday evening. The Johnsons stay in El Centro, the Andrews visit Mrs W E Beale in Holtville, then the group tours the Salton Sea ice plant and mud pots. Sunday dinner is at Palm Beach.
