Police reported the spilling of smudge pots in the local citrus area bringing the week’s tipped pots to about 75. Each pot was full of fuel oil and authorities warned further damage could occur if the oil soaks to tree roots, potentially killing the trees.

Chaffey Junior College declares spring term continuation for Corona Unified School District classes. Five courses offered on Corona High School campus and Naval Ordnance Laboratory site with evening schedules from 7 to 10 pm at the college and 4:30 to 6 pm at the laboratory. Registration set for Jan 22 at Corona High School and at the laboratory personnel building. Tuition free with no fees. open to all adults. students must provide textbooks.
A fire at the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco caused extensive damage to two buildings and a corridor before being controlled by inmate firemen and Naval Ordnance Laboratory crews. The blaze, started in the industrial arts building, is under investigation with authorities deeming it suspicious. In Brasilia two senators Arnon De Melo and Silvestre P Gois Montero opened fire on the senate floor during a debate. Senator Jose Caialli was struck by a .45 slug and died later in hospital. Senate President Auro De Andrade adjourned the session and handed the pair to military authorities.
Texas Governor John B. Connally checked out of Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas with a cast on his bullet shattered wrist and prepared to fly home to Austin. He thanked the 200 doctors nurses and staff in the hospital cafeteria and said he owed his life to them after the assassination of President Kennedy.
In Washington UPI reports two top House leaders pledged action on the civil rights bill only after January. House Leader Halleck told President Johnson he would push for passage and would have GOP votes from five committee members. Smith announced hearings would begin in January, with Johnson noting action likely after the new session begins.
