The Corona Mod and Gun club will meet tomorrow evening in the Odd Fellows hall at 7 30. All members are urged to attend and bring a friend. A turkey shoot is planned for December 15 and raffle tickets will be available on the 14th with a chance to win a craft.

Hoop teams begin practice at Corona High School with varsity A coached by S E Waldrip and B team led by Dan Bulkley. The B squad travels to Anaheim for the Anaheim Invitational to face Fullerton B. Despite short prep after a late football season, experienced players are expected to show well, with first practice games at Newport Beach and league play starting in January on Tuesdays and Fridays. A double round robin format will continue in the league.
The American Legion sponsored oratorical contest at Corona High School begins with a local committee chaired by Frank Bishop. If at least ten Corona High entries occur, first place earns 20 dollars, second ten, third five, with county awards up to 200 dollars and escalating prizes toward national honors that yield large scholarships.
The William H. Jameson Jr. Post No 216 plans a Legion Cougars home game at the high school gym tonight against the Golden Eagles at 8 p.m. Admission will be 50 cents for adults and 30 cents for students with proceeds supporting officials and travel costs.
St. Louis tax assessor Eugene Guise requests two new office telephones to handle a surge of inquiries and complaints about personal property taxes. One caller a father says his seven month old son received a tax bill though the child was not a resident when the assessment was made.

Two youngsters aged two and three accompany their mother Mrs Ursula Shaughnessy a Loretto High School teacher in Chicago. Authorities allow the children in class due to teacher and babysitter shortages.
Officials from federal and state welfare agencies join business industry and agriculture leaders December 4 at the Palace Hotel San Francisco for the California State Chamber of Commerce social security section. Topics include state operation of the employment service disability law welfare health insurance and extensions of social security. Speakers include James G. Bryant T H Mugford Mildred M Prince and Robert A Hornby with concurrent sessions on travel recreation natural resources water agriculture industrial highway and tax.
Ronald Chaffin mixed DDT powder with water while his mother wasn’t watching. He apparently suffered no ill effects and was rushed to a hospital where doctors said he did not swallow much of the drink.
Gaines Dog Research Center in New York names Laddie Boy the oldest at 15 human equivalent 135 years old in 1946. The report lists numerous long lived dogs with ages 12 to 21 and notable deeds from across the United States including Jiggs in California and Susie in Montana.
