A small grocery advertisement lists poultry and meat prices with cuts like broilers and fryers. Prices range from 17 to 31 cents per pound for various items, including butter and pork products, with subscription call to The Independent.
Mrs Lawrence Eastvedt hosted a Friday luncheon for her card club followed by contract bridge. Prizes were won by Mrs George Padgett and Mrs Leo DuPuis. Others present included Mrs A C Webster, Ben Tucker, Harold Marsden, Clinton Schmidt, and Carter Cannon. Mrs L L Patterson will entertain the club in two weeks.
Lawrence Wastvedt is guest of honor at a birthday dinner hosted by Mrs. Eastvedt at the family residence. A birthday cake will be served and covers are set for Mr. and Mrs. Armand Gagner of Riverside, Mrs. Albert L. Russell, and Mrs. Herbert dahnsoi of Corona.
The Corona-Norco PTA meets Tuesday at 1 15 p m in the high school teachers dining room. Mrs Rouby Sullivant presides and Mrs G M Cole presents a program on Character Education. City PTA presidents urged to attend with study and character education chairmen. Out of town guests include Riverside district chairman Mrs Lewis B Perry state study group chair Mrs E J Strorg and district president Mrs C R Helmer.
Mrs. Ernest E. Knavyer opens her home Tuesday for the Music section of the Wo man’s Club at 2 30 PM for an afternoon of American Opera Cadman Shanewis will be performed Alvin Brubacher tenor with Esther Thomas and Thelma Prior sopranos Clare Alexander contralto with Leroy Simms at the piano will present the program Mrs Glenn Joseph curator presides at the business session
The PTA at the Junior High hosts an open meeting Thursday night in the study hall with Mrs. H F Heers presiding and Mrs. James Beggs as program chair. Jack Webb and students from Webb School will present program items including a boys choir singing Christmas songs under J Lorin Farmer. A large attendance is expected for a delightful evening.
The Baptist Missionary Society convened at the church for an all day session on Friday. Edith Amidon led morning devotionals while W H Rapson spoke on Early Christian Bells and N B Landis discussed A Dollar Well Spent.
Mrs. Lucile Galbraith of Norco incoming worthy matron of the ir Order Eastern Star chapter in Fismore attends a business meeting of Matrons of the 641th district. Several local members host and attend related events including install of the Silver Wave chapter in San Bernardino and visits in Santa Barbara Los Angeles Long Beach and Glendale.
Major league executives gather in Cincinnati for the annual meeting with three key plans on the table. Larry MacPhail urges a 15 team world series format. Sam Breadon proposes a six day week with Mondays off and double headers on Sundays. Gerry Nugent supports a Shaughnessy playoff to sideline the Yankees. Night games and radio broadcasts also loom large.
Local Casaba teams under Coach Lawrence Thome swept Fridays games on the Perris court. In the varsity, Clinton Crowder led with six digits as the Panthers won 32 to 17 with Neal Snipes and Steven Crippen contributing points. The B team, led by Gail Walker with 16, won 35 to 18, while Wayne Keast and Chas McGregor joined with solid tallies. Earlier, Orville Brooks’ GC squad dominated Perris 35 to 18, Fred Bickhart scoring 11, Harold Harvey nine, and Trinidad Jiminez four.

The Roaring Twenties starring James Cagney and Priscilla Lane opens Sunday at the Corona Theater. The film covers the Jazz Age post World War I with an original story by Mark Helinger. Also on bill is Charlie Chan in City of Darkness.
Riverside County California adopts ordinance amending section 7 to ban public dances on Sundays unless a holiday, and to prohibit dances between 1 AM and 8 AM on all other days except holidays, detailing license and penalties provisions.
