The Norco Valley Fair begins this afternoon at 4 o clock and runs through Labor Day with events including an official opening and a beauty pageant at 8 p.m. The full report appears on Page 14 in the Entertainment Section.
FBI agents rescue the 4 year old son of banker Stanley Stafford Sr in Beverly Hills after a car chase and gun battle. The kidnapper is wounded and arrested. Deputy agent Emmett Doherty is hurt. a ransom of 250000 in twenty dollar bills was not delivered. Red Tracton facilitated the meeting but did not deliver the money.
Police stormed the Conrad Hilton on the 15th floor chasing McCarthy aides after youths gathered outside. About 50 youths were moved to the lobby with no arrests reported. McCarthy condemned the incident and urged convention stability as tear gas-rimmed protests continued nearby.

Kennedy after the June primary but went uncommitted at the convention.

Encino California William Talman longtime actor who played the district attorney in Perry Mason died at West Valley Community Hospital at age 53. The cause was cardiac arrest after a hospital stay for lung cancer first noted last September.
Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley said extraordinary security measures were used at the Democratic National Convention after he learned that certain people planned to assassinate him and three presidential candidates.
Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey urged Democratic officials to tolerate Sen. Eugene J. McCarthy while pledging to pursue new Vietnam policies if elected. The convention named Sen. Edmund S. Muskie as vice president amid protests and clashes with police and National Guard. McCarthy, Humphrey’s rival, declined to endorse Humphrey.
