Night and morning low clouds and local fog coastal section. Mostly clear tonight and Wednesday with scattered clouds in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures expected to remain steady.
City planners and Corona Chamber of Commerce representatives debated off street parking and a possible parking meter program to fund downtown lots. The panel discussed long term plans and study of other cities parking schemes. A park commission resolution was adopted and sent to the City Council. Letters on Sixth Street trees and a zoning variance for a grocery store were held for study. The Imperial Highway from Yorba Linda to Santa Ana Canyon may be improved as funds allow. Next planning meeting is Sept 26.
George Douglas of Los Angeles and John Rossiter Corona city Democratic chairman visited the Daily Independent office. Douglas is Helen Gahagan Douglas’s brother-in-law and Melvyn Douglas’s brother. He believes Mrs. Douglas has a strong chance to win and noted her GI Bill expansion bill for active servicemen against North Korea.
Today reaches a high of 93 degrees with a low around 61. Forest fire hazard is medium to high, prompting cautions for outdoor activity and fire safety.
In yesterday's item about Frank Spire's petition for a Corona post office site, the location was misprinted as Fifth and Ramona streets. It should read Fifth and Howard streets.
Corona High School class of 1930 held a 20 year reunion revealing only ten of its 51 graduates still live in Corona. Thirty-one of 55 attended the dinner at Redman hall where guests received autograph books and elderly letters were read from several classmates. A long lost banner, missing since 1930, was found near the Corona Independent office two days before the reunion.
Dr. E A Condon director of the U S Bureau of Standards will attend the Corona Chamber of Commerce August breakfast at Hotel Springborg tomorrow at 7 30 a m He plans to discuss intended use of Corona U S Naval Hospital facilities and future work He will be joined by staff members Hugh Odishaw and W W Bolton.
Kenneth A. Thomas accepts chairmanship of the Corona-Norco-Home Gardens Community Chest for this year as Harold Hof reports. A preliminary budget discussion was held with plans for a fuller review at tomorrow’s meeting. Attendees included Hof, Mrs. Kaminski, Mrs. Thome, Mrs. Jewell, Rev. Hogan, Burman, Thomas, Leister, Chandler, and Mrs. Farmer. Thomas runs the Bell-Thomas Mortuary.

A hungry intruder broke into the Jewel Coleman home on Belle Avenue while owners were at work. He pried a window screen, pocketed four packs of cigarettes and $5 in dimes, ate lunch meat, then left. No other items were disturbed. Officer reports the theft last evening.
The Corona High School Campus Compass, a student produced handbook for new students, will be issued at registration for the first time since 1942. Sopho mores and others helped plan write and mimeograph the 1950 guide under Principal O C Finis Brazier and teachers including Mrs Ha wes Hyatt and Mrs Marion Griswold.
