American armored columns crossed the Seine and drove toward the channel ports as forces closed the last escape corridor for the German 7th Army in Normandy. Patton’s tanks reportedly moved north of Paris toward the Marne while German remnants fled toward Pontoon bridges and the Seine estuary.
