State liquor taxes rise sharply under new control act
State liquor control reports six month fees totaling 3,881,174.23 with a 1,848,931.44 increase from 1934. Since January 1 the board issued 667 beverage selling permits with 67,700 in permit fees and 718,456 in excise taxes. Whisky and other hard liquor taxes began July 1 under the new control act.
Licenses Revoked and Fines Imposed by Board
A state board revoked 140 licenses and levied fines totaling 100,090 for various violations. 119 licenses were revoked for improper conduct, three for bad moral character, and 14 for sales to minors. The board’s staff made 2,964 arrests for issues including selling to minors and intoxicants.

Eleven years after purchase the Corona fire department’s pump truck faced needed repairs. Council accepted R Greve from Pacific Fire Equipment offered repairs to about 700 dollars, including two rear wheels, worn hoses, cranky pump, and cylinder reboring. Defendant in Local Robbery Case Is Arraigned
W F Hobbs returned to Riverside from Shreveport Louisiana to face a 1932 local robbery charge. He was arraigned in Superior court and requested counsel. Hobbs will plead August 19. He admits participation but says he was forced at gunpoint to aid three other men in the crime. The Worralls were beaten until they disclosed bonds and cash totaling 27000.
