Corona High School students favor major upgrades including a new gym and a separate shop building. Many support a football practice field on the old Washington school grounds and a possible swimming pool, while opinions on tearing down the old gym vary.
Funeral services for Oscar L. Graham age 69 of Magnolia Avenue will be Thursday at 11 am at Brown Funeral Home with Rev Daniel Hogan officiating. Circle Lodge I O O F No 377 will conduct graveside rites at Fairhaven Memorial Park Orange. Friends may call at the funeral home. Graham founded Graham Tire Shop and Sanitary Dairy and died at home Monday night.
Hundreds of youngsters celebrated the end of Summer School swimming lessons at the city plunge. About 500 children crowded the pool edge as balloons were released while they sat in orderly rows and performed. City-sponsored instruction continues, but school buses will not transport children to the plunge again this summer.
Bob Hope visited Corona Naval Hospital and met Beverly Jean Annis of Corona, candidate for the Norco Valley Fair Queen. She will perform at a hospital stage show and tour wards to secure votes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Annis.

Vert Gallen Bellman a 44 year old Colma California resident escaped injury when his car swerved to avoid railroad crossing danger signs on Ontario Street Ontario and Compton streets and ran into a ditch. His vehicle was towed from the scene and he was not harmed.
In Fort Worth Texas a copperhead snake 28 inches long was killed when an officer shot at an air conditioner after a man claimed no problem with it. The incident began when the man urged police to inspect the unit and the officer fired, hitting the snake inside the cooling unit.
A long list of businesses and employees are declared 100 percent registered and eligible for an honor roll plaque as a voter re registration drive continues in Corona. The notice urges residents to re register if house numbers or moves could affect voting on November 4. A grass fire on Magnolia Ave near the Aluminum Magnesium plant burned about half an acre before State Forestry units from Norco contained it around 1 p.m.
