President Wilson, in a morning address to military academy graduates on June 18, defined Americanism as unwavering belief in American principles and placing them first. He urged that those who do not put America first cannot associate with the nation. He warned against blustering national pride and favored quiet self-respect. He then left for Washington.

New design coins including dimes quarters and dollars will be minted after July 1. The change will affect coin types beginning with the half dollar which will be replaced by a new selected design for the first time.
The St Louis Democratic convention opens with Martin Glynn as temporary chairman and plans to nominate Wilson and Marshall Friday. Alaska pledges a native employment plank and woman suffrage support is noted while a mass demonstration greets Glynn’s pro peace stance. Wilson expected to campaign modestly with cabinet members touring the country.
New York June 18 The American Can Company announced a price hike effective June 1 raising rate from 75 cents to 3 dollars per 1 000 cans by size Sanitary No 10 cans rise from 50 to 53 per 1 000 and hole and cap No 10 cans climb from 49 50 to 82 50 per 1 000 This marks the second increase this year with May 1 the prior rise Allans.

He credits American vice-consul FE. G. Johnson for aiding his release and proving his American citizenship. authorities reportedly suspected him because of his German name.
In Rome on June 13 Cardinal Gaspari, papal secretary of state, told an Associated Press representative the pope seeks peace to stop the "death by own action of Europe." He said the Holy Father has no hidden motive and will thank God whether peace comes via the American president or the king of Spain, to end the slaughter.
Athens reports a third French daily, The Flag, appears in the evening to champion Serbian interests. It challenges Baron Schenck's German propaganda Athens Gazette. The Greek French morning paper Athens Messenger is lauded as among Greece's best, edited by Jeanne A Z Stedaughter of A dannetta.
In Munich the German chancellor states that the present map of war must form the basis for peace and that Germany’s terms will arise from this map. A Berlin commentary interprets the remark as implying current trenches form the starting point for negotiations after much bloodshed.
James O'Brien a one-armed factory worker was formally charged with the murder of Beatrice Walter a 19 year old friend. He pleaded not guilty and claimed she shot herself by accident, while police questioned his joint death by own action theory which could not be corroborated.
Police searched St Louis Bay after R G Estee a New York Stock Exchange member disappeared from the Rambler pleasure yacht in Duluth Minnesota. The canoe-based escape was reported after Estee asked for night air and the empty craft was found early Thursday.
Marathon Texas June 13 A mountain fire in the Glass Mountain district twelve miles west of town destroyed thirty sections of timber and grass lands and spread rapidly. Officials say the blaze began by lightning last Tuesday and efforts to check it have failed due to dryness and heavy losses from cattle and goats.
