New Yorker Arrives and Heads to Nizina

H. F. Andrus arrived from New York on the steamer Northwestern and registered at the Windsor hotel. He departed by train for Nizina to pursue extensive placer holdings. This afternoon 21 cars of copper ore from Kennecott arrived, to be shipped to the Tacoma smelter aboard the steamer North. Adolf Rappa of Seattle is visiting.

Chicago faces a total transit strike as 4 000 street car and elevated workers walk out at midnight. Jitneys and bicycles fill gaps while 15 000 would replace strikers. Mariposa Sails From Seattle to Cordova on Saturday

The Mariposa departed Seattle Saturday bound for Cordova and other Alaskan ports. The Cordova passengers include N. D. McClellan, R. McClellan, M. Frazier, Edw Harwood, Wm. Gregory, Jerry Perry, John Pierson and two steerage travelers. Edward Harwood, recently at Tacoma, heads to Cordova for summer vacation.

British news from London reports the Armdale a 3500 ton steamer was sunk by a floating mine in the North Sea. Danish schooner Merstal torpedoed and sunk with crew saved. French schooner Dimant sunk off Wales with all hands reaching shore. British steamer Hopemount a 3300 ton vessel torpedoed off Saint Ives with crew safe.

Lynch mob kills two as they assault jail in SBORO

In SBORO North Carolina a mob tried to seize Utes Smith a negro charged with assaulting a girl. Sheriff refused to surrender him and fired on the crowd. Eisenhauer a white man was killed during the melee and five deputies wounded. The mob's violence ended with the shooting of Smith.
