San Francisco July 7 Franklin D Roosevelt assistant secretary of the navy was nominated for vice president by the Democratic convention after all other nominees withdrew The convention adjourned later that day
William G. McAdoo expressed relief and delight that he was not chosen as the Democratic candidate. He praised Governor Cox’s selection in San Francisco and asked reporters to thank his supporters, with Mrs. McAdoo adding “That’s great.”
Hannibal Missouri July 7 Champ Clark at his Bowling Green home commented Cox was the best of the lot following the San Francisco convention. He expressed gladness at Cox's nomination and offered concise judgment on the field.
Kansas City July 7 Senator Reed declared Cox's nomination the strongest from every possible standpoint among the convention candidates.
In San Francisco on July 7 Associated Press reports Assistant Secretary of the Navy Roosevelt congratulates Governor Cox on his vice presidential nomination. He telegrams warm regards from his teammate and plans to visit on his way east to extend compliments in person.
William J. Bryan said his heart is with the Democratic cause and he will not issue a lengthy statement on the convention. He criticized the prohibition stance as a serious mistake that opened the door to nominating a wet candidate and warned against evading other issues.
President Wilson wired Secretary Roosevelt to offer warm congratulations and good wishes. The message was sent from Washington on July 7.

Senator Hiram W. Johnson ends speculation by stating Republicans should support the party and its candidate, backing the platform to safeguard and preserve Americanism. The statement comes as Johnson declares his firm alignment with the party and its platform.
Howard Williams national vice chairman of the committee of forty eight says third party proponents see grounds for a new party after the Democratic convention. A July ten Chicago convention is planned to form a new party and choose a presidential candidate. The statement, signed by Williams and Amos Pinchot, George Record, and J A Hopkins, criticizes the Republican platform as reactionary and the candidate as old guard.

Sir Edward Geddes presented General John J. Pershing with a jeweled sword from London. Pershing accepted the gift in the name of American and allied troops whose courage and skill helped secure victory and justice for mankind.
President Wilson will remain at the White House this summer, avoiding any extended time away from Washington according to an official announcement.
AEROPLANE MECHANIC KILLED IN ACCIDENT. Mack Kitchen of Oakland died when a plane piloted by Reynold Fross crashed near Sonoma yesterday. Fross and L. L. Honn, a commercial aviator, were seriously hurt in the crash reported from Santa Rosa California.
Fargo dispatch reports that in North Dakota the Non-Partisan League trails in two of three congressional districts while Dr. B. H. F. Ladd appears headed to a large majority for the governor nomination over Gronna. Lynn J. Frazier seems set to win the GOP nomination over William Langer by about five thousand.
Secretary Daniels and Governor Riggs will travel by destroyer from Seattle to inspect navy coal mines and potential oil lands in Alaska. Daniels announced a one million dollar appropriation for Montanuska coal field development for naval purposes, with oil prospects considered but not assured.
The steamer Admiral Watson sailed last night with 200 passengers including Mrs Eliza Bishop and A Lee Glade bound for Cordova. It carried 25 steers and 15,000 cans for Alaska canneries. The Admiral Goodrich left Everett with a full cargo of lumber and bridge material and gasoline for the Alaskan engineering commission at Anchorage.
Charles S. Fairchild of New York filed in the District of Columbia supreme court to enjoin Secretary Colby from issuing any proclamation that the woman suffrage amendment is ratified and to block Attorney General Palmer from enforcing the amendment. Justice Bailey set July 13 for cause showing on the motion. The suit contends West Virginia ratification was fraudulent and Tennessee ratification may be invalid for state constitutional reasons. Thirty-five states have ratified. one more needed. The move surprised suffrage circles. Also dated: market prices at noon July 6 for halibut sable fish and cod.
Premier Lloyd George presented a hard ultimatum urging Germany to cut its army from 200000 to 100000 and surrender over a million rifles. German foreign minister Simons warned the situation was serious as the exchange over treaty compliance heated up with Lloyd George questioning Germany’s intentions.
Rio dispatch reports Japan’s foreign minister Viscount Uchda stating the Siberian expedition’s aim is to protect Czech and Slovak nationals first and Japanese interests second. He says the first goal is realized, the second not, and that only limited troops will be sent to safeguard Japanese residents in Siberia.
Newcomb Palmer from Nomenco Illinois and Byron Cauldwell a former Palmer employee are held at Kankakee charged with trying to extort 40000 from Len Small a Republican governor candidate. Threats to kill Small and family appeared in a letter given to authorities. Chicago police used a decoy package and arrests followed.
C S Garland of Pittsburgh and R Norris Williams of Boston won the British tennis doubles title defeating A R F Kingscole and J C Parke who were on the British Davis Cup team. Rudolph Rudolph of Lycett Australia and Miss Ryan of California beat Gerald Patterson of Australia and Miles Lenglen of France in the mixed doubles.
