Washington December 30 orders have been issued for all federal troops in the Colorado strike zone to be withdrawn within a day or two. A conference of President Wilson Governor Ammons and Governor-elect Carlson decided the soldiers were no longer needed after miners voted to maintain a strike, ending the federal presence.
The steamer Mariposa arrived from the south at 12 30 this morning with cargo for Cordova merchants. It sailed westward about 4 30. Passengers listed include Cordova Mrs F A Stevens Carl Manlo Mrs P Imot J R Gibson and four second class. Valdez W H Brogan E R McFarland and one second class. Latouche J A Murphy Mrs J A Murphy and two second class. Seward two second class.
Cards announced the marriage of Miss Minnie Finkelstein and Alexander J. Goldman of Seattle. The ceremony occurred on Christmas Day at a Catholic church. They will reside in Seattle where Goldman represents Great Western Smelting & Refining Company and will be at home after January 10 at Hotel Herald with Mass and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
Seattle correspondent reports President Wilson and Secretary Lane have not decided Alaska railroad routes or terminal locations. Wilson says no time has been given to these points ahead of the Alaska Engineering Commission report. Washington circles believe government may take over Copper River Northwest, Alaska Northern and Tanana Valley lines but no early decision expected.
London reports a frank exchange over the US protest against British interference with commerce. Officials say differences may be settled but tightening controls on trans shipments via Holland and other nations are needed. Britain doubts any relaxation on searching American vessels bound for Italy without proof of fraud. The note suggests US guarantees on bills of lading and strict anti fraud regulations.
Polish dispatches report the Russian lines hold the German main army in check while harassing Austria’s forces in Galicia. German assaults along the Bzura near Warsaw fail to break Russian positions, with heavy losses claimed in massed attacks as they try to force progress.
London reports Allied offensives along the German front reduced in scope as Berlin charters a victory claim. British observers call the attacks sporadic tests against weak points, arguing the planned massive push remains in place for a later time.

J. A. Murphy, a well known mining man, and Mrs Murphy travel aboard the Mariposa for Latouche where Murphy is interested in valuable copper properties.
C B Murphy, a longtime resident, arrived from Juneau aboard the Mariposa to assess the situation and stay awhile. J B Berry, a Cordova mining man, was noted by the Northwest Mi Journal as recently in the Spirit City. Moose Johnson, who organized Cordova lodge of Moose, is traveling outside from the interior and will soon visit Cordova.
A coal discovery at Poorman Creek in the Ruby district draws mixed opinions on quality with claims of anthracite or lignite. Discoverer George Bettle reports unsatisfactory gold pays, but the find could prove valuable despite initial setbacks. O Neill and Slater Co advertise low grocer prices amid the notice.
President Wilson and House Speaker Clark met to discuss the legislative program. Clark said the administration's program should finish without an extra session and that the Woman Suffrage bill would be voted on January 12. He also stated he would not seek the presidency in 1916.
The well known mining engineer, who spent last summer near McCarthy, says Copper River valley has a bright outlook. He notes McCarthy as a lively supply point for placer districts and hydraulic plants, with coal opening likely lowering operating costs and boosting business.
