Dispatches report a massive Petrograd rail accident caused by crowding and several hundred dead or injured. A later report describes a labor riot in Petrograd resulting in many deaths and 105 laborers executed after workers demanded more food and shorter 16 hour days.
Elaborate plans are under way here for the entertainment of delegates to the congress of Latin American working men to be held in Mexico City for a week beginning January 11. Several hundred visitors are expected with Central American republics and South American representation, and the American Federation of Labor will also send a delegation.
California farmers announce a coyote drive starting early next month to protect crops. Residents will board and lodge the government poisoner while he conducts the operation in the Hollister area.
A Security Trust and Savings Bank messenger was attacked in the Los Angeles main business district yesterday. He was robbed of 6,500 dollars in cash and 75,000 dollars in non negotiable checks. Fresno date line report says three men attempted to rob a Southern Pacific passenger train. The southbound train hit an open switch and was halted before derailment. The trio boarded but fled as another train approached.
