Allied French and British forces completed an orderly retreat from Serbian territory into Greece, saving most ammunition and guns amid heavy Bulgarian attacks. Transports flood Saloniki, Greek towns fortify as Greek troops withdraw. reports say wounded are few and morale high despite fears of German or Bulgarian advances.
In Fairbanks on December 15 the town raised subscription funds to pay freight for all parcel post mail over the trail from Cordova. A man from Cordova was dispatched to the postmaster there to confirm how many sacks of mail bound for Fairbanks were held up, to estimate the transport cost.
Paris reports a major clash at Cerna with Bulgarians suffering about four thousand killed wounded or captured. French lines were repeatedly stormed. despite superior French marksmanship and artillery fire the Bulgars pressed the assault forcing a French retirement to avoid excessive losses.
Berlin dispatch reports the retreating Serbians pushed deeper into Montenegro as Teutons pursue across the Tari and Grab Bordérovo lines. Several hundred prisoners taken yesterday. German forces suffer virtually no losses while Serbia's resistance collapses into scattered bands and minor ambushes.
Travelers arriving in New York report about two hundred transports seen in Taranto Bay loaded with troops, guns, and ammunition for a sizable force. While no definite destination was learned, it is widely believed in Italy the ships head for Albania to join the Balkan campaign.
Athens reports a German submarine was sunk west of Varna by Russian destroyers. British submarines are said to have renewed activity in the Sea of Marmara. A Turkish torpedo boat was torpedoed and sunk, while the British submarine returned safely to base.
King Oscar II reached the Orkney Islands carrying Henry Ford and his peace propagandists. Ford offered no immediate plans, but English mood appears hostile to peace efforts. Britain had recently seen a surge in military enlistments and is described as ready to fight until victory on the battlefield.
The disabled steamer Minnesota arrived in San Francisco towed by two ocean going tugs. Officers say defective boilers caused the trouble and no spies or arrests will follow. Rumors of German sabotage are denied by the officials.
Irbanks Dec 15 Delegate Wickersham wired that he talked with Secretary Lane about Alaska railroad plans for next year and Lane assured that construction to Nenana would commence next summer.
Chicago, Dec. 15. A heavyweight bout between Jess Willard and Fred Fulton was signed today for twenty rounds on March 4. Willard, reigning champion, will defend his title. purses are $32,000 to Willard and $7,500 to Fulton, regardless of outcome.
John F. Barrett filed in the Juneau office an application for patent to a homestead claim of 296 acres near McCarthy. Barrett located the land in 1906 and has cultivated it continuously, raising crops each year. Photos show a highly productive farm.
President Wilson meets with Samuel Gompers of the American Federation of Labor in Washington to discuss labor support for national preparedness and the appointment of a labor representative on a committee to confer with army and navy officers on mobilizing national resources. Wilson will consider the request.
The department of agriculture released official 1915 crop value estimates: total farm products worth 6.27 billion dollars as of December 1. The top value item is corn at 1.756 billion dollars. Ed Lindig arrived from MecCarthy on the previous day.

London reports the death of Sir Richard Everard Webster known as Viscount Alverstone and Lord Chief Justice of England after a long illness. The 76 year old jurist helped arbitrate the Bering Sea dispute and the British Guiana Venezuela boundary case, became master of the rolls in 1899, and was raised to the peerage as Baron Alverstone and later appointed Lord Chief Justice.
Agent Tallent reports the Alameda left Juneau last night with no sailing time given. The funeral for Brother W. H. Lear will be held Friday at 1 PM at Eagle Hall with members and visiting brothers invited. The Farragut steamer is due from the westward tomorrow night at 8 o'clock.
Rome reports coal at 40 dollars a ton, up 10 in a week, forcing Italians to buy by bags for seven dollars. The rise threatens industry and public utilities, with households warming as winter nears. Talks of German or Japanese imports emerge, but transport costs and war risks limit relief. American shippers urged to enter Italian market, yet shipping dangers constrain supply.

It states nearly all available workers can find employment and many more women and girls are needed across trades and industries.
In Constantinople on December 15 authorities report Anatolia harvested a good average crop, securing Turkey’s winter grain. Transportation remains the main obstacle as the Anatolian Railway faces reduced service and military demands. An agreement with the war department willenable regular grain shipments, with hope for foreign grain to supplement supplies.
The lack of German synthetic indigo on world markets has spurred eager demand for natural indigo from India. High prices are paid for limited supplies while China sees revival in indigo production. Punjab reports over 14 percent of British India’s area devoted to indigo, but crops are below average and overall yield will likely be small.
