Berlin and Saloniki dispatches report Teutons and Bulgarians advancing in Serbia with Greeks withdrawing, Doiran and Gievgeli seized, and French British forces retreating toward the Greek frontier. Bulgarian forces under Todoroff press hard, claiming heavy allied losses.

Fran Marion Cockrell longtime United States Senator from Missouri died in Washington on December 1. A Confederate brigadier general, he was wounded at Hood's Tennessee invasion and commanded a division at Mobile. Elected to the Senate in 1875, he served over thirty years. The Senate adjourned in his memory.
At the last business meeting of the Woman's Society of Ch Workers held at a Vance house an invitation was extended to Mrs Snyder and friends to attend the last social silver tea of the year at the Arlington opposite the Alaskan Hotel First Street on Wednesday afternoon at 2 30 o'clock. The invitation was accepted.
The British government will purchase American securities from citizens to prevent large holdings from returning to the United States. Purchases financed by exchequer bonds in five years at five percent interest. London reports the move aims to reinforce the empire after peace. Sweden notes British submarine blockade halting Germany’s iron ore imports.
Negotiations for salving the German cruiser Emden were broken off due to fear of complications if used as a show ship. The navy now plans to salvage the wrecked gunboat with expert crews and necessary apparatus, heading to Northding Island in the Indian Ocean where the hulk has rested for a year.
