Reports say Halifax harbor explosive blast followed two vessels colliding in a storm. One munition ship on American register exploded, causing widespread fires and wreckage in Halifax and waterfront districts. Wires cut, censor in charge. initial death toll unconfirmed but large numbers feared.
Mrs. Alice Kidwell signed an affidavit admitting giving false testimony before the grand jury that indicted Thomas Mooney and others for the preparedness day bombs and murders in San Francisco.
The Border Line Transportation ship Northland was sold today to Atlantic coast interests and will sail east soon. The vessel, a 687 ton steam schooner built in Seattle in 1898, measured 140 feet long with 270 feet beam and 14 feet depth, and had Ketchikan Alaska as home port. A separate note reports W P Murphy of Tanana accused of seditious remarks, Pete Mauer of Teutonic origin intervened by force, was involved in an arrest for assault, but the case was dismissed and costs of about forty dollars were charged to Murphy.
London reports twenty five airplanes raided England with six reaching London. Two planes were brought down and crews captured. Fire caused by bombs was quickly controlled and casualties were light. Seven killed and twenty one injured in the raid. three killed and injured in London.
Washington December 6 The committee reports the United States will likely send troops to Italy soon. The note signals a probable deployment as events unfold.
Italian headquarters report furious enemy attacks on the Asiago plateau repulsed with heavy losses in the northeast sector. Teutons occupy advanced lines as fighting remains desperate with masses of infantry in hand to hand clashes.
A male Italian passenger aboard the Spokane died after leaping overboard on the Princess May bound for Prince Rupert. He was distressed by the loss of his baggage and disappeared beneath the waves before aid could reach him.
San Francisco December 6 Judge W W McCredie owner of the Portland franchise will attend the league annual meeting from Portland. Manager Walter McCredie is also expected to attend. A lower salary limit to meet the war emergency will be one of the big topics at the meeting, which insiders call the most important in league history.
J W McNamara, sentenced in Valdez on December 1, 1909 to 15 years at McNeil Island for murder in Cordova, died November 2 after years of declining health. The case drew attention for alleged insanity during the McCormac hotel killing on October 29 to November 4. He was paroled June 22 after about seven years and seven months, but health deteriorated until death.
Heavy fighting around Asiago as enemy waves attack with liquid gas. Intense artillery shelling followed by infantry clashes across a ten mile front from yesterday into last night near Asiago.

In Petrograd December 6 representatives of the Teutons and Russian emissaries met at Brest. Leto visk of the Teutons sought an armistice only on the eastern front, while the Russians demanded a general armistice with no troop movements and the surrender of Moon Sound islands. The Teutons rejected these conditions as unacceptable, noting such terms fit only a conquered country. The Teuton proposal for an eastern front armistice was under Russian consideration.
Boxvay December 6 A steamer struck by a torpedo sank a life boat carrying about a score of passengers and killed several. Others drowned. There were fourteen women aboard the steamer eight of whom were drowned.
About a thousand packing house employees and retail butchers struck today demanding a closed shop policy. Cordova launches a food conservation drive with post office and store signups for food cards to aid the national effort for the boys overseas. In Ketchikan Conrad M. Eines and Charles Olson were convicted of sedition with sentences of one year and fines of 100 dollars and 500 dollars respectively.
Patrick Barrett died of pneumonia in Bellingham after a illness of a few days. He was 22, son of Col Geo T Barrett of Katalla and a member of the Beaver and Eagle matrilineal clan. A Chemawa and Haskell alumnus, Barrett was a lecturer on Indian advancement and a bookkeeper for Hoonah Packing in Bellingham, preparing notes for a history of his mother's people.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee unanimously approves a resolution backing an Austrian declaration of war. The House plans to pass the measure before Friday night, with the government to arrest hundreds of thousands of alien enemies in the United States after wartime declaration.
London Dec 6 Naval airplanes raided German artillery establishments in Belgium hitting an air dome train. The action targeted the German defense positions and disrupted equipment believed to be connected to coastal fortifications.

Two Ellamar youths, Louis Anderson and George Wagner, disappeared after a duck hunt on November 27 in severe gales and cold, with a search ongoing.

"Indian Jim" recently discharged from McNeil's Island penitentiary after two and a half years for manslaughter has returned to his Alaska home. He was arrested near Knik in December 1913 for the murder of Tom Stepan, bound over to a grand jury, convicted in July 1915, and sentenced to three years. He claimed the shooting was accidental after a quarrel. He heads back to Knik.
Clive J. Atkinson of Buckingham and Hecht Shoe company was in Camp Mills, New York, awaiting departure for France after being drafted. His son, stationed at Camp Lewis briefly, was also involved as part of the family’s military movement. S. S. Alameda departed Juneau at dawn and was due to arrive here early Saturday morning.
