Warsaw reports four Bolshevik divisions totaling about 250000 troops were crushed with estimated 40000 killed and 50000 taken prisoners. A Fourth Army remnant broke through eastward after ten hours of fighting as Soviet reserves flood the southern and northern fronts.
James Wilson former secretary of agriculture died at his Traer Iowa home at 11 am. He served fifteen years heading the agriculture department contributing to U S farm growth and serving under McKinley Roosevelt and Taft. Born 1835 in Ayrshire Scotland his family settled near Traer where he began farming and entered politics in 1861.
Philadelphia August 26 report says Hog Island shipyard built and launched three ships in a single day totaling 23 650 deadweight tons marking a new American record.
The Prohibition party national HQ issued a statement alleging Harding has no record of voting for days and that he voted with the wets on 30 occasions, challenging his stance on prohibition.

District of Columbia Supreme Court rules the Post Office Department cannot deny second class mail privileges to periodicals over alleged past Espionage Act violations. The Call, barred from the mails for wartime articles, remains affected.
The Associated Press reports a meeting in Denver where governors and officials from seven southwestern states discussed reclamation plans to develop 240,000 square miles of land in the Colorado river basin and the construction of three mountain tunnels.
Two thousand boilermakers at the Standifer ship building plant walk off the job in Vancouver Washington to protest employing an alien Russian who refused to take citizenship papers. The worker left later and the men planned to return to work the next morning.
Three planes that flew from New York to Nome began the return trip yesterday at 3 30 PM. Captain Street was delayed by engine trouble but may proceed to Fairbanks this afternoon. The team planned a Cape Prince of Wales and Siberia leg, but Washington telegram disapproved the plan.

The American Legion of California calls for cancelling the gentleman's agreement and stricter exclusion of Japanese immigration including picture brides.
In Graham North Carolina a mob overpowered the sheriff and six deputies and took John Jeffress a Black man accused of attempting to assault a four year old girl. He was shot to death by the mob after being removed from the jail.
Governor Stephens granted a reprieve until October 22 for 17 year old Roy Wolff who was sentenced to be hanged September 17 for the murder of Elmer Green at Bakersfield. The action followed a flood of pleas citing the youth of Wolff, who formerly lived in Yakima Washington.
Tokio reports that American congressmen touring the Far East were greeted with waving of American and old Korean flags in Seoul. Troops and police near Ping Yang naval guns saw some action but no violence. In Seoul the delegation said they will stick to their original program with police protection assurance.
Cham paign, Ill., marksman Mark Arie shattered 198 of 200 targets to win the American amateur championship in single targets at 18 yards rise in Cleveland. The event, part of the trapshooting tournament, drew top shooters from across the nation.
