Admiral Rodman commander of the Pacific fleet returns from Alaska and visits Victoria. He reports Alaska coal fields hold an inexhaustible supply, though mining may be harder than in the Pocahontas field due to perpendicular vein inclinations.
Charles Ponzi, international financier, surrendered to the U S marshal as Bank Examiner Allen prepared a warrant against him. The Capital Hanover Trust Company, Ponzi's bank, is likely to be wiped out after unsafe operations were found. Ponzi admitted a Montreal penitentiary term and had prior forgery convictions. Records show Ponzi served two years in Atlanta Federal Penitentiary for alien smuggling.
Reports from Aug 12 indicate federal troops are moving toward San Luis Sonora near Yuma and Ensenada to counter Cantu forces. Rebel defenses in Baja California strengthen as Mazatlan departures mount a campaign aimed at Cantu.
