In 24 hours U S troops fought several small clashes with 47 enemy dead and 1 American killed, eight wounded. Two American helicopter crews were injured in crashes as B52 bombers conducted six missions including a strike on North Vietnamese base camps near the DMZ.
Official sources say the enemy plans a winter spring offensive after the October fall campaign to maximize American casualties and destabilize the South Vietnamese government. Documents allegedly show less large unit action, focus on pacification disruption, and more indirect fire and small unit raids to limit casualties while pressuring U.S. withdrawal. Paratroopers near Hue uncover 150 civilian bodies from the Tet offensive, bringing Hue-area civilian deaths to about 2,000 with 1,000 still missing.
Voters were scarce at the polls Saturday morning with 914 casting ballots in Corbin's nonpartisan mayoral primary. Voters cast a single vote to narrow three candidates for the November general election. Precinct 17 in Knox County led with 208 votes while Precinct 15 in South Corbin had 56. Noon totals reflect these figures.

Rep. Barry Goldwater and his field deputy were pulled from a crumpled Beech Bonanza after the single engine plane clipped high tension wires and crashed into a Van Nuys residence. Both men suffered minor lacerations and were treated and released. The FAA said Goldwater was low on fuel and heading for the nearby airport.
Travel counselors from 12 states and Ontario will spend seven days touring Kentucky State Resort Parks and other attractions. The Kentucky tour, announced by W. James Host, commissioner, Department of Public Information, starts in Louisville Sunday and visits Cumberland Falls among other state parks.
The House approves 2 million to fund planning for a 45 million Capitol remodel adding an east wall 100 offices four restaurants two auditoriums escalators and public restrooms. Supporters led by Rep. Schwengel say action is needed amid age concerns while opponents question scope and cost.
After four hours of deliberation a Boyle Circuit Court jury acquitted Jewell Curtis Winn of first degree murder in the shooting death of Danville police Sgt. James Ryan Sr. during a break-in investigation. Winn testified he was at home in Valley Station that night. wife Louise and friend Norma Neal corroborated. He had been free on $50,000 bond and faces Jefferson County charges of grand larceny storehouse breaking and knowingly receiving stolen property.
Senator Birch Bayh urged President Nixon to back the constitutional amendment for direct popular election of the presidency. Nixon favors direct election but doubts ratification. The House approved the measure 339 to 70, and Bayh said Senate passage hinges on floor votes and two-thirds overall.
The Corbin Daily Tribune errors left Carl Lewallen off the candidate list for president of the Corbin High School Student Council. The election was postponed to Monday at the high school.
Barfield of the First Baptist Church of Corbin will present the Sunday School lesson on WCTT at 8 45 a m Sunday. The program highlights a church teaching segment broadcast in the morning.

A one car crash at 2:15 a.m. on Kentucky 26, four miles north of Williamsburg, left driver Albert Rice seriously hurt with facial and chest lacerations. Arlo Carr was treated and released, while Harvey Carr Jr. and Starlin Lawson, both of Williamsburg, suffered minor injuries. The southbound car overturned after leaving the roadway and struck an embankment.
