Local Soldier Awarded Eight Decorations Posthumously

Whitley County soldier Cpl. Ronnie Lawson was killed in Vietnam on June 27, 1969. His parents Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Partin of Siler received eight decorations including the Bronze Star for Valor the Combat Infantryman Badge the Army Commendation Medal the Purple Heart the Army Good Conduct Medal the National Defense Medal the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Lawson a Whitley County High School graduate was drafted in 1968.

Rally Planned at Whitley County Courthouse for New Building

A statement from the Committee calls on Whitley County residents to attend a public rally at the courthouse on Saturday November 1 at 10 00 am to push for a new courthouse. They condemn the current structure built on old framework and warn of buckling floors leaks and deteriorating plumbing. The group emphasizes modern space for records storage and proposes a vote on November 4 to back a replacement that preserves historic records and serves visitors and locals.
