Basket Appeal Fund Drive Nears Goal Shortfall

Justice Star sey sentenced 17 year old Minnie Townes to five years in prison after she pleaded guilty in State Supreme Court to selling heroin and barbiturates to Brooklyn schoolchildren. The judge rejected probation due to her age and past convictions for bookmaking, noting she began narcotics dealing for profit.

Five Persons Lose Permits To Drive Cars In Week

Five drivers from Laurel Knox and Whitley counties had licenses revoked for the week ending December 12. Four faced driving while intoxicated charges and one, Robert Johnson Long of Emlyn, failed to appear for a personal interview. Local Scout Earns Eagle Scout Award

David Triplett 14, son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Triplett, earned the Eagle Badge at Camp McKee during Honor Ceremonies led by Camp Director Gordon Campbell. Jimmy Turner presented the Eagle Certificate signed by President Nixon. David has a record in Cub Scouting Kawida Lodge Order of the Arrow Troop 526 and activities with the First Christian Church and local sports teams. He attended the National Scout Jamoree at Farragut Park Idaho with 37000 Scouts.

Eugene Siler Jr of Williamsburg will be sworn in January 12 as U S Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, succeeding George Cline of Morehead who has served since November 1963.
