JET HIJACK AT DAWN MISSED DISASTER IN SYRIA
A Trans World Airlines Boeing 707 carrying 113 aboard was hijacked by a Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine group en route to Athens and Tel Aviv. The bomb threat forced a Damascus landing with a cockpit blast after passengers fled. Israeli and other nationalities aboard included two Israeli women.

Corbin youth Kenneth Vermillion was shot in the left side with a .38 caliber pistol Friday. The bullet passed through the rib cage but spared major organs and he was admitted to the local hospital. Police report that Vermillion and fellow teen Don Hodge were handling the gun when it discharged.
