Cove Women to Hold First Annual Bowling Tourney
The Copperas Cove Women's Bowling Association, formed in August 1968 after breaking from Killeen, will host its first annual tournament February 8 9 with teams from Copperas Cove Killeen Lampasas Fort Hood and Killeen Base. The event features teams singles and doubles across multiple scheduled sessions led by captains Addie Holmes Gladys Bain Emma Naeve and many others. Secretary Euna Sutton leads the association with Jane Langford in publicity.

Military Affairs Committee Sets 1969 Agenda at Chamber
The Military Affairs Committee met January 24 at the Chamber offices to plan for 1969. Attendees included E. H. Rhode as chairman J. A. Darossett Marvin Mickan Marlin Bond and Lovett Ledger with Harold Schnorrenberg absent. The group proposed coordinating Armed Forces Week a senior commanders appreciation program recognizing local military leadership cooperating with AUSA Central Texas Fort Hood Chamber and aiding Veterans organizations for Veterans Day observances and family support as needed.

About 400 people attended the 13th Annual Chamber Banquet at the Junior High School Gym. Craft Harrison received the gavel from outgoing president Raymond Johnson and outlined a 1969 theme stressing civilian military ties, education cooperation, city government, and historical site restoration. Johnson urged continued support for the new board. Guest speaker was T. L. Austin Jr., president of Texas Power & Light. Ed Rhode led as general chairman and Lovett Ledger as master of ceremonies.

Miss Cove Pageant Set for February 7 8 at Copperas Cove
The annual Miss Cove Beauty Pageant will be held February 7 and 8 at Avenue E Junior High School Auditorium Copperas Cove. Friday features Miss Fairview Miss Halstead and Miss Jewel elementary titles with the Copperas Cove High School Stage Band. Saturday includes Miss Junior High and Miss Cove titles with Cisco Junior College Stage Band providing entertainment between sections. Admission is 75 cents for adults and 50 cents for children.

Bain Dies at 68 in San Antonio Former Mid-Texas President
Willard S. Bain, 68, president of Mid-Texas Telephone Co., died January 22 at his San Antonio home. A Trenton Missouri native, he helped form Mid-Texas in 1949 by acquiring Texas exchanges and led affiliated companies serving Central and South Texas. He was a former director of the U S Independent Telephone Association and past president of the Texas Telephone Association. He is survived by wife Agnes Mathis Bain and three sons and a daughter.
