The city authorized bonds to raise 100000 for park land purchases and a promotion committee received a 97000 donation from land sellers to fund factory sites. The plan financed a large rolling mill and a paper mill, promising 1500 jobs and substantial tax gains as population and values rise.

Mrs J A Mettle hosted a charm ing reception at her West Eighth Street home for the Thimble Club of Laurel. The house was adorned with carnations and palms. Guests included Mrs Fiora Secrest Addie Sanders Josie O'Hair Kilda Trickey Sallie Shera Miss Kate Gifford Mrs Allie Manley Lizzie Day Mattie Waters Flora Manley Lizzie Bennett Hattie Lockwood Mollie Smith Anna L Ackerman Frances Shera and Master Howard Mettle. A five coffee dinner was served with carnations prominent.

The Arts and Crafts exhibit raised money to purchase pictures for city public schools. Supt. W. S. Rowe led the effort with support from clubs and citizens. total receipts reached 220 with 170 expected to clear. Donations included a Coliseum picture for the school ball. Real estate transfers were also listed.
