Fourth Annual Ball Delights Connersville Society
The X T O club hosted a grand February ball with 64 couples on the dance floor and 200 plus attendees. Led by Harry Updegraff and Miss Benedict the grand march started at 9 45 pm as Henry Rieman decorated the room and Hart’s Orchestra from Indianapolis played. A Trinity church banquet featured oysters salad cake and coffee while guests from distant towns gathered including Miss Margaret Mercer Miss Ursula Strong Miss Flo Everhart and many others from Saginaw Cincinnati Richmond Norwood and Chicago.

Jahu DeWitt Miller delivered the third Blue Ribbon lecture at Roots Hall on Our Country's Possibilities and Perils, praised by a large cultured audience. He contrasted law making and law breaking and praised Abe Lincoln and the Grand Army of the Republic while noting Southern and Western divisions over silver. Public notices also recount a birthday surprise for Mrs. Turner and local civic notes from Washington dated February 18, 1898.

A City Electrics Mast Proposal For Night Lighting

Resolutions of Respect for Brother A C Cooley
A committee reports the death of A C Cooley of Connersville born 1812 in New York and died February 9 1893 after two weeks of suffering. He moved to Jackson County 1821 and Connersville 1846. he was a devoted Odd Fellows member since 1857 and a humane, upright citizen. The resolutions express sorrow for his loss and sympathy for his family, commend his virtues, honor the lodge with mourning and print copies for the public papers.

A young man died near Brookville and volunteers staged a grave digging contest using cards to decide workers. Two began digging while others played seven up, continuing until the grave reached eight feet amid public outraged curiosity.
