In Idlewild a bright May awakening frames a romance between Kate Waverly Lena Morley and Mark Delmer. A. J. Bauder, accused of killing his wife in Cleveland, had a conjugal letter read to the jury. The missive shows intimate pleas and daily life from Bauder to his wife with affectionate references, domestic details, and hopes for reunion, signed Pet and dated January 24 1880.
The Indianapolis Sentinel recounts a waggish tale of a railroad conductor in Indianapolis who returns home to find three babies instead of one. His wife and friends orchestrate the prank, and the stunned husband asks with dry humor if any were “wet away.”
