Farmers Institute Discusses Local Agriculture At Roots Hall

The county Farmers Institute session at Roots Hall on Wednesday and Thursday attracted strong attendance and featured papers by prominent researchers. Topics included Birds of the Orchard and Garden by Prof. A W Butler, fruit prospects in White Water Valley, and soil renovation by Dr C A Robinson. Butler cited 3000 bushels of apples shipped from Franklin County and Brookville at 40 cents per bushel.

Farmers Institute Urges Soil Fertility and Education

The Fayette County agricultural meeting warned against soil depletion, urged proper composting and clover use, and promoted fertilizer discipline. Speakers including Mrs. Laura Scofield and Mrs. J. B. Howe stressed farmer education, youth training, and cooperative dairying alongside Purdue guidance. The session adjourned to February 1893 with resolutions supporting Purdue supervision and county libraries.
