The city and Hydraulic Company reach a settlement on hydraulic rental and franchise terms. City to pay $2,500 balance. gains ownership of existing machinery and a twenty five year light franchise. Expect works to be ready by March 10 with pro rata payments if needed.
Emma A White filed for absolute divorce from Dr F D White in Fayette Circuit Court alleging marriage in 1880, abandonment in 1909, lack of support, and prior cruelty. She seeks custody of Ida May White and child education support. W E Ochiltree represents her.
Debate over new congressional maps in Indiana shifts counties between districts. One plan moves Decatur to the Fourth, expands the Sixth to Marion County, and keeps Indianapolis in a separate Seventh, amid fellow Democrats and court scrutiny.
Cambridge City and Milton report continued robberies and burglaries despite police efforts. Break-ins target business establishments and are blamed on a well organized gang operating locally, with authorities citing local talent as the source of the crimes.
The play Nancy will be presented tomorrow night by C. H. Kerr with Miss Daisy Camer on in the title role. Kerr telegraphed E. Kehl to announce that anyone who saw the production and was not pleased may receive a full refund of the admission price at the box office. This unusual offer is an assurance of the show’s merit.
County commissioners met to name election boards for the February 7 wet or dry election. The issue is whether inspectors should be half wet and half dry or all dry. The board deferred final decision pending further deliberation expected later tonight.
Six contestants Andrew Golden Eliis Bottles Ferris Stephens Ruby Fisher Carl Lindh and Blanche Wiggs from every class will vie for the school championship. The winner earns a trip to Earlham College for a short course in oratory as preparation for the State Oratorical Contest at Brownsburg Indiana near school year end. A musical program complements the evening with expected large attendance and a pleasant time.
Friends of Edwin Carver formerly of this county announce his death at his Hollywood home after a few days. He was about seventy, known in the Bentonville area for his engaging personality and ease in making friends. Several relatives survive.
Fayette county assessors prepare for the spring real estate assessment with deputies to monitor land sales and improvements. County Assessor Murray directs township assessors to avoid finalizing values until near completion to ensure fair results. A meeting with neighboring counties is planned to discuss plans and procedures. The 1910 assessment valued land at $4,512,915, expected to rise.
J. K. Jameson of Rushville closed a deal for the fixtures of the Perry Jones fashion store caried by the Guffin Dry Goods Company. The fixtures will be shipped to Rushville on Friday as Jones plans possible future department store ventures in the northwest.
In Irvington near Indianapolis the C H D No 34 engine broke both driving rods at 10 25 pm and stayed on rails. Engineer John Myers remained at his post while Fireman Glenn Van Horn fled for safety with no injuries among crew or passengers. The accident delayed travel to Chicago.
A stranger riding the Big Four evening train nearly froze Monday after missing doors and riding on the steps until the conductor found him at Hubers Station. Cold water revived him and he continued southward aboard the last coach.
Four aging veterans appeared before the Connersville Pension Board today to take examinations and apply for higher pensions. Two men came from Decatur County, one from Shelby County, and one from this county.
W H Hendricks suffers long lung trouble and remains confined at his west Seventh street home in Connersville. Once treated in Colorado years ago his health declined again in recent weeks and doctors fear little chance of recovery. The couple are well known for managing the Vaudette Theatre and their social presence in the community.
A blaze at Milroy destroyed the Gwinn mill and elevator and damaged the Gwinn home, costing about 8000 dollars to James M. Gwinn of 110 North Perkins and roughly 2000 dollars to Perry T. Innis, Milroy bank president. Nearby residents William Pitman and Clark Walker, both Civil War veterans and longtime neighbors, died within twelve hours of each other from paralysis after serving as postmasters.
