Switch Left Open Causes Fatal Wreck at Acton Park
Friday evening news reports careless track work left a switch open on the Shelbyville line causing the inbound interurban car No. 216 to derail at Acton Park at 9 55 am killing attorney Donald Sleeth and injuring about twenty others. The car carried seventy two passengers when it struck the switch and toppled. Passengers crawled free as crews freed Sleeth who died shortly after. Witnesses say poles masked the open switch view and motorman James Bartecott applied emergency brakes but too late.

Born in 1889 he lived fifty years in the county and owned a small farm east of the city. He leaves five children Myrtle Godwin Fannie Wolfe Jesse Miller Charles Miller and Addie Frank. his wife died about a year ago. Funeral at Dankard church Friday at nine thirty with burial at Lyons Station.
