He says Thurman will carry the party in Indiana and Gray supporters will campaign vigorously. If Harrison is the Republican nominee, the Cleveland Thurman lead could approach fifteen thousand votes.

The Sixth District Democratic Convention at Richmond nominated Douglas Morris of Rushville as the party standard bearer against General Tom Browne. Morris, a young active lawyer, is expected to canvass the district vigorously and discuss tariff and major campaign issues. He is popular at home and supported by Rush County Democrats. Greensburg plans a grand July Fourth celebration with a prize drill among Uniform Divisions of the K P. Prize money totals 340 in gold for the division with the most men and best band. The program will include oratory music races and more from dawn till dark inviting all to attend.
For the quarter ending December 31, 1887 the Post Office Department reports receipts of 13 653 962 and expenditures of 13 791 781, a deficiency of 187 819. Receipts were the largest for any quarter in government history and the difference the smallest since the 1883 postage rate cut.
