Convention Nominates McKinley and Roosevelt in Unanimous Rally
Philadelphia June 22 President McKinley was unanimously renominated for president by the Republican national convention and Governor Theodore Roosevelt of New York was unanimously chosen to stand as vice president. The scenes were tumultuous with mass demonstrations as delegates waved hats, plumes, and banners and Foraker electrified the hall with a ringing appeal for the ticket. The crowd roared as Lodge and Hanna and other leaders lauded the choice while Roosevelt captivated the pit with forceful, stirring rhetoric and a national salute. The convention then adjourned after affirming the joint ticket for the 1901 term.
