A tumult at the Ohio Republican State convention leads to the ejecting of Tut McKisson supporters while Indiana Democrats focus more on platform wording than selecting a ticket. The issue of free silver is highlighted as insufficient to carry the bill this year.
Mrs. Charles Silcott of east Ninth street dislocated her right elbow after a fall today. Dr. H. M Logee reduced the dislocation. Several notices report local activities including an election for Vesta Top No. 38 ROS and various residents traveling, recovering from illness, or visiting friends.
Mrs Belle Conner visits West Stile and Alpine relatives. neighbors and visitors are named from Connersville Brookville Covington Kentucky and Franklin County. A death in Columbia is reported with funeral details. Also a dispatch notes Spanish warship preparations to break the blockade near Santiago with Admiral Cervera hoping to save ships and fight nearby.
The Southern Railway offers low rate Lane seekers and settlers tickets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month to eight southeastern states. Also advertised are trips to Asheville and other resorts. Missouri Pacific Railway promotes round trip fares to Omaha with through sleeping car service from Indianapolis. An invitation notes travel to the Mississippi Exposition with savings on railroad fare, plus details at 417 Fourth Avenue Louisville and Jackson Place Indianapolis. Benjamin Clifford and wife along with Mes Charles Ford and daughter plan a four week visit to Anderson and Spiceland.

Tinplate manufacturers and the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers reached a wage scale agreement in Pittsburg. The final draft removed two footnotes, substituting blackboards for weight saps and dropping the shearing clause. D. G. Reid of Richmond led manufacturers, while President Shaffer led workers at the conference with full union representation.
A suburb girl Hazel Velma Fultz aged appears age six burned to death in a vacant lot fire while playing with matches near Haughville. Her mother reached her too late as flames consumed the clothing and she died about an hour after the incident.

Yesterday several Connersville men joined Capt. B. FB Dickson's volunteer company of engineers. Names include Charles Williams, Charles S. Moffner, Leroy Spencer and Henry A. Horne. Harry Waybright, John Kraus and Walter G. Jones entered regular army service and were sent to the front with the heavy artillery at Port Barrancax Florida.
