Ward Jemison the Alligator Druggist appeals to Fayette county readers with a nine year overview of his Connersville shop. He offers a cigar or soda to readers who visit and, on a subsequent visit, promises a year’s subscription to the Wrexty Times if they fail to recall him.
A promotion touts deep reductions on high class merchandise inviting shoppers to visit the store for "crushing blows" to regular prices. The language implies a limited sale designed to attract economically minded buyers with unusually low pricing.
A historic sales notice proclaims a largest ever clearing sale on millinery with trimmed hats reduced to 1 to 2 and untrimmed hats to 25 to 75 cents. It lists flowers silk roses baby bonnets and hats organdies whites goods notions belts needles and eyes dress skirts linings and a 106 piece china dinner set discounted to 6.98.
Washington report notes Secretary Sherman and Hawaiian negotiators paused after a review, delaying formal signatures and submission to the Senate. A 60 year old man known as T Whiteman alias F J Williams and former gang leader of horse thieves is jailed in Greenville Ohio charged with a crime from 29 years ago. Detective John Welker transported him from Michigan City Indiana where he had just completed a two year sentence. He had escaped earlier and eluded officers until the Indiana prison lead located him for arrest.
In a jumble of inconsistencies a slice of baseball scores lists teams such as Boston Cincinnati New York St Louis Brooklyn Chicago Washington Pittsburg Cleveland Philadelphia Baltimore and others with mixed runs hits and errors. Names like Lewis Bergeon Khert Brown Pletz Hart Murphy McMahon Smith Kittridge Jerman McGuire Tanne hill Lewhy Cuppy Zimmer Boyle Magee Dexter appear in a garbled recap.
James P. Harlan, brother of Associate Justice Harlan, was killed by a train near Louisville’s almshouse on the Louisville, Henderson and St. Louis railway. He was about 70, once a prominent lawyer, later an almshouse resident after years in law and public office, with a noted battle against liquor.
