A street encounter ends with Pat giving a quart to an inquiring Irishman after asserting the devil is dead. The Cologne court reverses a libel sentence against its editor, finding insufficient evidence of malice to justify punishment. In a separate crash, Mr. Pletcher and William Brady witness a velocipede derailment. Bundy is fatally struck by a train after attempting to reach a switch.
The House and Senate resumed discussion of the silver bill on June 7. Minnesota’s Lind urged currency expansion while Missouri’s Bhain t pushed for free coinage. other members argued over demonetization and remonetization. The House adjourned after a long debate, and the Senate moved to reconsider and address related measures including a public building bond and a railway project in Arizona.

A separate Baltimore and Ohio wreck near Clarington, West Virginia left some hurt but none killed.
A 400 strong mob attacked Freudenthal factories in Austrian Silesia, seizing operations as gendarmes fought to quell the violence. Slaters fell from a church steeple in Garitz, severly injuring several. Crops suffer from mildew in Hungary and frost destroys Rhine fruit. Public notices of labor actions ripple through Princetown, New York, Philadelphia area, and beyond as miners, carpenters, and builders strike for wage and work conditions.
A June morning storm brought lightning to the Pioneer Coal works six miles above Charleston. A bolt struck the company barn killing Tim Hicks and injuring Stephenson, Dills, Dick Alexander, and another boy. The barn burned. Hicks and Stephenson died. Dills and Alexander survived.
A fragmentary eyewitness scene from a Goldsnore hotel shows two young Black men approach a dusky woman in a tense exchange. A cook calls them to work as they vanish, while voices hint at strained relationships and threatened lives amid the hotel corridor.
