The Horticultural Society met last Thursday in Knights of Pythias Hall Everton with about 125 attendees despite cold wind. Sidney Taylor of near Harrisburg died of paralysis on May 2 and was laid to rest May 4 in Lick Creek Cemetery. Funeral services were led by Rev. E W Harlan with the 1.0.C. F. fraternity handling arrangements. Born in New York, he moved west and lived in Fayette County about 70 years. He married Hariett Ludlow in 1851. she died last Christmas. Two sons survive, and relatives extend sympathy.

Dr J F Thomson, supervisor of the Sixth District census, names center workers for Fayette County: Griffis, White, Meeker, Smith, Martin, Stoope, Hackleman, Thomas, Perin, Beckett Jr, Lair, Byrne, Sipe, and Knapp. The article adds that few bring a sizable wheat harvest in Fayette county this year.
About 74 children gathered Saturday evening in the McFarlan dining room to honor Corinne Bundy on her eleventh birthday. The party was informal and joyful with dancing by young guests and praise for the two little dancers Hilda Pepper and Sylvia Johnston.

The eleventh annual Waterloo Township Schools commencement was held at Robinsons Chapel on May 2. A full crowd of parents from Waterloo and neighboring townships attended as diplomas were presented by Calvin Ochiltree. The program featured essays and recitations by Iva Doner Lewis Stanley Fay Smalley Ethel Hamilton Tululu Wood and Goldie Eschelman with remarks by Hon. D. W. McKee and music by the Lyons Station Orchestra.
Net receipts from the Song Recital and Matinee at Opera House show one half to Professor Lippitt, Supervisor of Music, and the other half to Connersville School, each share amounting to 34.25 dollars. The report lists expenditures on stage, lumber seats, advertising, programs, orchestra, lighting, and decorations.
The Board of Education elected W. S. Rowe as Superintendent and a group of teachers led by W. R. Houghton and J. F. Clifford for the upcoming school year. E. M. Lippitt was named Music Director. Janitors selected include Thos. B. Reynolds, James Curry, and Wm. Dane.
The Epworth League Chapter of the First M E Church held installation services with a program of exercises. Prof F I Barrows presided and noted the league’s 1.9 million members, 25 000 chapters, and the local chapter with over 200 members. New officers were Charley Hull President Mrs Bowers 1st Vice President I Barrows 2nd Vice President Miss Bertha Martin Secretary. Reverend Dimmitt urged duty and opportunity. Miss Ireland presented a paper on the Epworth Mission of Connerville.
Two thousand special agents began May 1 to collect manufacturing data for the 1900 census. Connersville’s growth over the past decade earns praise from the Manufacturers' Club as they plan to raise funds to attract new enterprises, with local business leaders united and hopeful for a thriving, modern future.
Rosa Bryant aged 15 years 8 months 15 days died after months of consumption. She joined the church at eleven and led a Christian life. Survived by three sisters and devoted parents. Between Saturday evening and Monday morning burglars damaged the McCann’s Roller Mills cafe office while trying to force the safe. They did not enter the cafe, but stole 55 cents and some postage stamps from McCann. The awkward entry suggests inexperienced culprits.
A horse pulling a carriage dashed down Central Avenue Sunday evening frighteningly fast. Mr. S. H. Robinsou and family narrowly escaped serious injury as the driver failed to control the horse near Fifth Street, ending with the bit striking the First National Bank building. The buggy suffered damage with a broken shaft but the occupants escaped unharmed.
Prominent citizens D. T. Roote and Will Thomas plan a new chicken raising firm in the White Water Carpet Company building East Connersville. The operation will use modern methods and aim to become the largest, most progressive in the state, with fancy breeds and shippers for the eastern market.
The East Connersville and Connersville Township Schools commencement is moved to the Baptist Church in East Connersville on May 11, not May 10. In Cuba, Charles F. W. Neely a former Daily News editor from Muncie is accused of large postal fraud involving a $75 000 shortage and is under arrest awaiting trial.
