The squire notes four more killings in Indiana place this past week. He reports the local liquor license holder has surrendered the license, deeming liquor selling a dirty business. He adds that life remains hopeful, but not for the deceased.
The Otonkah No 94 Red Men plan a one night Redmanship initiation for 43 candidates at the Auditorium Theatre on February 14. Great Chiefs from Indiana will attend as the tribe, established in 1890, prepares a record 483 members and substantial benefits and assets.
The Auto and Vehicle Lamp Company plans to move into Connersville. City officials extend a hearty welcome and best wishes for the venture, anticipating reciprocal benefits for the community and residents.
The jury failed to reach a verdict in the Mrs Jeanette Steward Ford blackmail case heard in Cincinnati last week. Reports and interviews portray conflicting views of Mrs Ford as a villain and as wrongfully accused, while defense counsel hints at appeals to the Ohio Legislature to influence higher officials.
Ws Hi Tieman and a small staff in the Odd Fellows Building grade 604 applications for 202 district enumerator positions. Only 360 applicants remain after 25 percent of the field missing the test. Papers go to the Census Director for review. all papers must reach him by February 22. Fayette county shows 51 applications and 31 tested for 17 posts. Nationwide need is 63,000 enumerators.
The County Commissioners on Saturday appropriated 100 to pay for a transcript in the John Wilson murder case. Judge Gray requested the action preliminary to appealing to the Supreme Court.
Citizens in Shelbyville and Rushville chase a clairvoyant pretense off with larceny charges after she pockets cash by claiming to reveal the future. The piece mocks the gullibility and suggests extending licenses to rob the public of jewelry and cash.
In Wayne county the republican primary endorsed W. O. Barnard for Congress and Walter S. Commons for State Senator in the Wayne-Union district. John C. Harvey was chosen for Joint Representative in the Wayne-Fayette district, with Lee J. Reynolds and Chas. Ladd among other nominees for local offices. Charles W. Stivers challenged Commons for State Senate, and Walter Ratliff faced opposition from the dry faction for Joint Representative, losing decisively. Barnard faced no opposition but trailed the ticket leaders in votes.
The County Teacher's Institute met at the High School building on Saturday with strong turnout. The High School Orchestra provided high quality music as Rev. W. Smith opened with an invocation. Principal instructors Miss Florence Wood and Mr. W. W. Black delivered engaging and instructional sessions, leaving a favorable impression.
Cornersville welcomes Peter P. Fettig and his Shelbyville family who will assume control of the McFarlan Hotel March 1. They plan to succeed Owen the present proprietor whose friendly manner has earned wide friendships. Fettig currently runs the Ray House in Shelbyville.
Rev Burkhart of the Christian Church will address the Men s Big Class at 9 30 Sunday morning on Blind Tigers and Law Enforcement. The talk promises valuable insight and draws the town’s men to attend.
Connersville lodge plans a second de cree tonight for about six candidates who have joined the order amid lighthearted humor. The notice urges the lads to enjoy the event and value their money, acknowledging the rough initiation as part of the ceremony.
Miss Margaret Cook, a young Indianapolis concert pianist, will perform in Connnersville at the Carnegie Library on February 25 1910 at 8 p m. She studied five years in Europe with Leschetizky and worked with Jovinne in Berlin and De Pachmann in Indianapolis and Cincinnati. She has performed successfully in Vienna and across the United States and will appear at the John Herron Art Institute in March for her third Indianapolis concert.
A Four County Herald article portrays Andersonville as crowded with tenants and eager migrants. It notes no vacant houses yet and at least a dozen families seeking residence, urging locals with cash to build more homes to meet demand and rent of four to five dollars a month.
Mr Milton Gaar head of Krell Piano sales spoke to the High School Monday morning on the topic Young men who fail, and why. The talk was well received by teachers and students and reflected his practical sense and sober judgment. He has much experience in employing and guiding young men.
The Annual Fayette County Farmers Institute at the Court House attracts strong attendance. The program spans February 10 to 12 with talks on household labor saving devices women’s education in trade profitable horses drainage swine rearing and feeding and multiple baking and corn prizes. Corn prizes include best single ear and various cash awards judged by Martindale.
The Indiana Democratic Editorial Association held its annual meeting in Indianapolis naming officers: President Clay Metsker. vice presidents Paul Poynter Sullivan and Frank Gwinn. treasurer A C Hindesley. secretary Charles J Arnold. executive committee member John Da Pretz from Shelbyville. The group endorsed Governor Marshall Senator Shively and Democratic Representatives and denounced favored legislation. The gathering concluded on a positive note.

Republicans in Union county elect Dr C H Breanbreiht as chairman John Husted vice chairman Will L McMahan secretary and Lewis Hughes treasurer. Primary on February 21 features five candidates for clerk three for auditor three for commissioner and lone runners for treasurer sheriff recorder assessor and supervisor. Stivers editor of the Liberty Herald faces Walter S Commons of Wayne county for State Senator from Wayne and Union.
Auction of the personal property of Mrs. Ann J. Handley, deceased, will be held at her late home near Nuttown on Tuesday February 15. The estate is being settled by her son Elmer Handley of Connersville.
Rev Tilman Hobson and two assistants started a revival in Cambridge City on February 6 and will hold meetings through February 26. Interest and attendance rise as the series continues.

Harvey heads Wayne Fayette joint representation. other races include Cain and Perin for County Recorder. Thomas challenges Murray for County Assessor. Sparks seeks renomination as Circuit Court Clerk. Kennedy to again serve as Auditor. Starr and Miller tied to Treasurer and Sheriff posts. three commissioner races feature Fiant Springer Kellum with clean slates. Later Thomas withdraws, Murray remains sole contender for Assessor, drawing a playful tone about Charley Smith keeping him in bounds.
Fayette County officials approved 12 668 75 to pay off the final principal and interest due to Congressional and permanent endowment school funds. The treasury remains solvent with 7 282 03 available for regular and incidental expenses until June tax collections. The report notes a low tax rate and well managed fiscal affairs.
The Four County Herald defends the Fraternal Orders against critics. The paper argues objectors lack understanding and oppose what they misjudge as fault finding. It asserts the orders are doing good work and deserve support.
