Pine Ridge High School earned a 3 to 2 victory in a tight match. The team secured the winning goal late and advanced in the standings against a determined rival.
Gilliam County High School boys edged Pine Ridge 12 to 5 on Condon diamond after a seesaw battle through eight innings. C. Fitamaure had a three bagger in the eighth while Icahona fanned 16. Hollen struck out 12 for Pine Ridge. In Fossil, Condon Public School beat Mogsil 18 to 12 in ten innings. H. H. Wilburn reports copper-like ore found while drilling a Buckhorn ranch well at 95 feet.
The fifth annual field meet and declamatory contest of Sherman County schools took place at Grass Valley today. A Special Decoration Day service will be held in the Congregational church next Sunday morning with a sermon for the public. Mr and Mrs John Farr and their family from Scappoose Oregon visited in the city this past week at the home of Mr and Mrs Wm Farr.
Mrs. Lottie Wilkes wife of M P Wilkes a passenger engineer on the O R N Railroad died at her home on Portland May 22 born Hollister California March 1 1876 maiden name Lottie C Fredaun member of the Christian Church and several local organizations survived by husband daughter and relatives Auxiliary of the Eastern Star to hold a tea and cake sale June 3 in the Bowerman building with 10 cent tea and 50 cent cookbooks. Community notices include several residents traveling men visiting and a high school party honoring the 1910 graduates with a contest and refreshments.
Over 137000 pounds of wool stored in Condon interiors and Kerr Gifford warehouses this season. Buyers Wm Barr and H P Rothwell of Thermopolis purchase seven thousand sheep to ship to Wyoming range, with most sold from Condon and Heppner. Wool quality praised, Gilliam County becoming a major wool center. Also two statues of Greek gods Pallas Athene and Diana arrive at Gilliam County High School funded by a recent pupil play.
Wm Dowling of Ferry Can renewed his Globe subscription this morning. Edwin Stick returned from Vancouver to the city yesterday evening. The piece lauds a printer for translating manuscripts into clear English, correcting errors, and steering content to the author’s intent. Jas Cameron renewed his subscription. Mrs Frank Sankey visited from Fossil yesterday.
The Mayville skating rink program by St. Thomas Aquinas Academy drew a well filled house with praise for the Silver Star Drill and recitations. Local figures such as Rev. J P O Rourke awarded diplomas and medals, while the good roads gathering at the Court House drew a small crowd but sparked debate over tax burdens and bond funding.
L S Bosworth arrives in the city from Idaho for a short visit. W Cooke returns from Portland while Miss Mamie Smith resigns a Portland visit. Mrs Phil Doherty of Heppner visits this week. Plumes cleaned flowers and straws refreshed at Misa Pittman’s Millinery Parlors.
Mayville News Grange met Saturday with a good crowd. It was decided to organize juvenile grange with Miss Julia Thomas named matron and Mrs. Della Smith assistant. J. W. Dyer hosted visitors from Fossil and Ajax residents Burrel Brown attended.
