Eclipse viewing at Blalock and Red Cross race meet in Condon

Reports say Blalock offers a prime eclipse viewing spot on June 8 with crowds driving in. Condon hosts a four day Red Cross race meet starting next Wednesday with 45 harness entries and purses totaling $750 plus $250 in special races, including nightly dances.

Parcel Post Social Nets Good Amount for Organ

A fair sized crowd attended the parcel post social at the Congregational church on Wednesday. The event raised about $40 for the organ fund as packages were auctioned by Marshal Wheir. Herbert Schilling sang solo and Cora and Rose Anderson performed a duet. The ice cream booth was popular. Mrs. Frank Woosley and Miss Jessie Hardie left for Seaside to attend Rebslak heats. Miss Hazel Schott returned from Joseph after teaching the past school year.

Carl Anderson was badly bruised when a saddle horse fell on him near Pine Ridge Sunday morning. Dr. Wilhelm examined him and found no serious injuries. Anderson was later able to be around again.

April Red Cross drive in Gilliam slows but hopes stay high

Mrs. T. G. Johnson reports an April Red Cross shipment worth 480 dollars, including gauze bundles, bandages and hospital wear, with renewed appeals as county subscriptions progress slowly. The drive ends Monday and members urge swift payments to avoid personal visits. A race meet auction features a sheep donated by Lester Wade with other goods to raise funds for the Red Cross and Armenian Relief Fund.

Memorial Service Observes Memorial Day at Congregational Church

Memorial services set for next Thursday at 11 AM in the Congregational church to honor Memorial Day per President Wilson’s proclamation. The infant child of Mr and Mrs Lee Scrivner died Tuesday and funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon with Rev Weidman and a quartet.

Choir Dinner Party At Hartshorn Home In Condon

Mrs. C. H. Wilson, bound for a cast assignment, inspired a delightful dinner party at the H. A. Hartshorn Home last evening. Pink rose buds maline and hand painted place cards enhanced the table while Mrs. Hartshorn served an excellent dinner and toasts added to the enjoyment. The guests were all members of the Congregational choir to which Mrs. Wilson has been a loyal assistant during her three years in Condon.

Luncheon Given for Mrs C H Wilson by Mrs Crawford

Mrs Wm Crawford hosted a dainty luncheon on Wednesday in honor of Mrs C H Wilson who plans to leave next week for the east. Yellow and white narcissus and tulips set the theme for the three course meal with covers for six including Mrs C H Wilson and Miss Frances Byers. Alex Hardie left for Portland Monday to visit relatives. Mr and Mrs G M Blakely departed Saturday for Shaniko to spend time on their ranch.

Fourteen Gilliam county men are to depart next week for Fort McDowell to serve in the U S Army.
