Judge Bellinger Dead In Portland After Illness
Federal District Judge Charles B. Bellinger of Oregon died at his Portland residence Friday afternoon after a severe bout with influenza. Born 1839 in Knox county Tilmore, he moved to Oregon as a youth and rose to national prominence for integrity. His death silences a key figure in the Oregon land fraud cases under federal scrutiny.

City Council Sells Water Bonds With Bid From Salem Leader
At a Monday meeting sealed bids for 30,000 in city water bonds were opened and J P Rogers of Salem was awarded the contract. Rogers bid 32,185 for 80,000 bonds, a 2,185 premium over face value, bonds drawn at six percent. Four bids ranged from par to premiums, Morrin and Co of Portland second with 400 under par.
