Second Annual Closing Exercises at St Thomas Aquinas Academy
On May 25 at the Rink Opera House the academy will present an elaborate closing program with select music tableaux and drills. Senior girls in Grecian costume will perform The Lotus Eater in pantomime and younger children will join in a Poses Plastique. A varied musical lineup includes orchestra violin mandolin piano solos duets and trios with two pianos. A full program will be published later.

Building of Character talk energizes Philomath pupils
Prof. White of Philomath College spoke to high school pupils Wednesday on The Building of Character. His address encouraged students by showing the value of years spent in school. Robt. Fitzmaurice was absent two days this week. The High School lawn was cleaned up and improved last week. Water from the well drilled by H. H. Wilburn will soon be used at the school. Nona Ham returned to school Monday after several days absence.

The Gilliam County High School board re employed the entire faculty for another year. Principal L McCann and Miss Minerva Thiessen are named among the staff. Miss Thiessen has resigned to teach in Philadelphia private school. replacement for her vacancy is to be decided. Several locals travel for jobs and college ties are noted. The High School drama has been postponed to May 17 with tickets selling at Condon Drug Store.

Pat Mahaffey to Start for Club on Sunday Game
Pat Mahaffey will be on the initial sack for the Club team Sunday. Admission to the game next Sunday will be 26 cents with an extra charge of 10 cents for seats in the grandstand. Receipts on the market for the week ending today show cattle 1484 calves 92 hogs 1071 sheep 4096 horses and mules 52. Most cattle from California of good quality. lower prices did not prevail. Grass cattle run not started. packers expect lower priced cattle but supply and quality remain. Sheep market well supplied and steady. Hog market trends with River markets. Portland prices $1.50 higher than other points but 10 cents lower than last week. Benjamin Hunt came up from Rock Creek Wednesday.

The Igo Telephone Co has begun construction on a new line from this city to Alville. Post fees are being dug and sawed posts will be used. The company expects the line in operation by June 1.
