Trade growth in Philippine imports and exports 1900

Washington reports a 72 percent rise in U S to Philippine imports for January–August 1900 versus 1899, totaling 1 340 717 dollars. Total imports plus exports show a trade balance of 56 or 1 991 442 dollars with exports at 17 808 222 dollars, up 28 percent from 1899.

Fire destroys warehouse and injures firefighters in Chicago

In Chicago on March 71 a large warehouse owned by J. B. Ford Johnson & Co. on Sixteenth Street and Wabash Avenue burned completely. Walls collapsed trapping firemen inside. several were injured by falling bricks. The blaze caused about $200,000 in losses to building and stock. Separately in Cleveland on March 21 an all–railway meeting approved a one cent per mile rate for the Grand Army of the Republic encampment next September, fixing the rate within Central Passenger Association territory and for connecting lines.
