Globe Bill Must Be Paid in Delinquent Tax Lists Case

Judge Parker finds the Globe publication bill for delinquent tax lists and county court proceedings in 1912 correct and orders the county court to issue a warrant for payment. The ruling states the county court acted arbitrarily and without lawful sanction, fixing no reasonable compensation, and upholds prior precedent in Flagg vs Columbia County. T. A. Arlington July 24 Special Walter Wade a merchant from Alex traveled through Arlington on his way home. Ray S Lamoreaux and wife departed for Portland for a short vacation. B Marick a farmer from near Rock Creek visited Arlington this week. J L Blalock and wife left for Portland for several weeks vacation. Theo Merca of Blalock did trading in Arlington early week. J E Stephens from Rock Creek visited Wednesday. Ralph Strode of Olex arrived to pick up Walter Wade and wife. A F Shanks and wife left for Newport to enjoy a seaside cottage for a stay.

Postmaster McMorris asks patrons not to litter or spit on the post office floor citing a law. He warns enforcement will follow if the request is ignored.

Stock Shipped to Portland Market in Multiple Carloads

Two cattle cars were sent to Portland Monday by Geo. Schott and Tom Hoover. Brown sent a fine horse carload to Tacoma on Saturday bound for Honolulu. P. Weir delivered two cattle cars to the Portland market Tuesday.

Hottest Monday Night On Record In Condon

The town of Condon registered a nightly low of 70 degrees the temperature at four in the morning was a new record warm minimum two degrees above previous records Arlington reached a 106 degree high with a 100 degree early morning low while July 9, 1911 marked the hottest day in Condon history at 102 degrees.

Runaway causes serious accident in Mayville area

Mrs Loyd Smith and three young ladies suffered a severe ankle fracture when a runaway horse team frightened them. Smith was taken to the local hospital where Dr Wilhelm reduced the fracture. The doctor called it the worst he had seen but reported the patient resting comfortably. Rev Brady, now at Yale, is in Condon briefly. Mrs Hartshorn left Monday for a Colorado Springs vacation.

City Council Moves Against Treasurers Authority

A letter accuses the city council of overstepping bounds by demanding the resignation of the elected city treasurer. It alleges no proven neglect, notes books are open for inspection, and calls for auditing instead of scapegoating the treasurer amid ongoing rumors and political feuding.

Railroad builds Main Street walk connection

The railroad company has shipped 60 000 feet of sidewalk lumber to construct a walk from the depot along the east side of Main Street, connecting with the existing partially completed walk.

Klink’s Pastime Sold to Guy Chamness

E. J. Klint has sold his pastime to Guy Chamness, the deal closed the first of the week. Chamness is an experienced man in the pastime business and will run a good house. Klink plans to stay in Condon but will harvest for a few weeks before taking up other work.

Robert Morgan Re Sentenced to Hang on September Fifth

Robert Morgan who shot and killed Virgie Hart and seriously wounded A. T. Crane on October 16 last year was re sentenced by Judge Parker to be hanged on September 5. He spoke of good treatment at the penitentiary and maintained his innocence while sympathy and petitions for commutation circulated. Morgan was moved back to the penitentiary by deputy Weed.

Tobey Ranch Sold in Gilliam County for 98000

The E O Tobey ranch comprising about 200 acres on Shutler Flat south of Arlington was sold last week for 98000 to Rudolph Kissling of Portland in one of Gilliam county’s largest real estate deals. Edgar C Tobey, who acquired the tract in the 1880s, built a substantial holdings empire.
