Vaudeville Show Planned for February Nineteenth at American Theatre

Arrangements are complete for a big vaudeville show at the American Theatre next Friday night February 24. The Wheat City Orchestra opens with selections, followed by a long bill of vocal solos recitations duets and other acts. Reserved seats go on sale Sunday at the Condon Drug Co. at 50 cents. The Condon Athletic Club urges early ticket purchase to avoid sold out seats and to support a local institution.

Two deaths and local notices in small town Oregon

The community mourns two recent deaths Rebecca Mi age 19 died after months at home from Bright's disease and heart trouble funeral at her mother’s home Wednesday with mixed quartet and Dr Ferris officiating. William Buchanan age 25 died after a saddle horse accident near Olex, funeral at Congregational church with interment at Mount Moriah. Also notes attend Western Retail Lumbermen convention in San Francisco, editor James Stuart’s travel, arrest warrant for Evan Anderson with $2000 bond, Edward Dunn’s return from Los Angeles and a man offering to sell his car with extras including sprockets to reach 10.85 mph.

Grange Day March District Convention Attendance

Grange organizers announce a March 1 gathering in Gilliam County with five Granges from the county and one from Wheeler attending the district convention in the city. The American Theatre is booked for the event with an afternoon program led by Mrs. J. R. Wells, featuring lectures by State Master A. E. B. Spence and Clara H. Waldo. Evening will include a closed session and a fifth degree ceremony. a small leather purse is also reported found.

A Keller, noted brewer from The Dalles, traveled to Wheat City yesterday. C A Cameron returned to Portland Tuesday morning after a brief stay at Buckhorn ranch. Cameron oversees stock sales for the company.

Irvington Girls Charity Recitals Promote Local Aid

Eight young Irvington women led by Verna Barker and Alta Clarke have used three years of charity work. They organized recitals to raise funds for the poor, earning $46 this period and planning to reach about $50 next year with piano violin and vocal performances.

Irrigation census work visits Gilliam County official

Special Agent R. V. Meikle completed a census of Gilliam County irrigation projects this past week and visited the city on Tuesday. He urged a complete return on all irrigation plants to accurately show Oregon's status versus other western states. Ex-Sheriff Ray Rogers arrived from the Valley on Wednesday evening.

Card of Thanks expresses gratitude for 80 kindnesses during illness and death of W L Blakely and Velma. A shower hosted by Mrs C C Portwood honors Nan Fitzmaurice before her March 14 wedding to RR Butler. Portwood home decorated for St Valentine’s Day, 25 guests brought gifts. Mr and Mrs William Gross plan to move back to their ranch north of town at month’s start.

Jack Fiske returned to Arlington after a Wheat City business trip. Several teachers earned certificates: First grade Lottie Kejaure May Montague. Second grade Elsie Weed Minnie Chamberlaine Myrtle Scrivner Charlotte Marvel Clarence Dodgon Clarence Wilson. Third grade Mildred Dunn. Hazel Seely earned a State Diploma pending Salem grading with returns due by March 20. The Twine String Social at Grange Hall in Alville raised between 35 and 40 dollars for the treasury.

Band Reorganizing To Stage Street Concerts

Avcumber and others interested in music met with band leader W. R. Sisson in Heppner. A follow up meeting is set for 7 20 this evening in the Globe office for Wheat City Cornet Band members and others to join. If plans satisfy, concerts may begin Saturday nights on the street with light opera music.
