Farmers Embrace Grain Grading School at Condon Courthouse

A grain grading school led by Prof. George R Hyslop of the Agricultural College drew strong local interest in Condon over three days. Sessions covered wheat varieties suited to the area, grain handling and marketing, summer fallow, and broader farm production topics, with high enthusiasm among attendees.

Elect Officers in Fraternal Lodges and Local News

The 1.0.0.F. held annual elections with W. B. Smith as Noble Grand and George J. Caven as Vice Grand. Endymion Lodge elected Dr. J. W. Wilhelm as Chancellor Commander and D. N. Mackay as Vice Chancellor. Local residents were noted visiting Portland, Condon, and Seattle, with hotel openings and subscription updates.

Wilkins Returns Home From Camp Zachary Taylor

Will Wilkins returned home near Clem and has been in Condon visiting friends. He was discharged from Camp Zachary Taylor in Kentucky and says Oregon looks good to him. He is a top sergeant in the Flying Corps.

Scout Meeting Tonight at Globe Office

A Boy Scouts business meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 7 PM at the Globe office. Every member is expected to attend to plan 1919 activities and discuss several business matters. prompt arrival is requested.

Christmas Exercises Mark Public School Week

Public School holds annual Christmas program Friday at 2 45 PM with a two day holiday break until Monday December 30 and again for New Year’s Day. Visitors include Mrs Hartsword Mrs Wallace and others. New pupils Eva Turner Vernon Madden and James Hicks. Second Grade mounts Paul Ersene and Boots Old Stormy December and Jack Frost. Fourth to Sixth Grades present two concert recitations Saint Nicholas and Is It Christmas in Your Heart. Janitors Mr and Mrs Thouvenel plan a Portland trip and a 40 year family reunion. Calendar gifts from First National Bank feature Fort McHenry design. Old Santa hobnobs with the kids.

Local Notes From Condon and Surroundings

Taylor was in Olex Wednesday. Fourteen of Gilliam county’s teachers are in Condon taking regular examination for certificates. J. Mariner of Blalock transacted business in Condon Tuesday. Judge and Mrs. G W Parman bought a Hamilton piano from Graves & Graves Saturday. A number of Condon youths attended the Alville dance Saturday night and reported a good time. Dr W H Reynolds went to Portland Sunday. Mrs Bert Crowley visited from Olex Monday. The Mikkalo dance last Friday night was the best ever. Over 100 dance tickets were sold with attendees from Condon Arlington and Blalock. The new Trail Fork bridge is finished and open to travel. Mr and Mrs C W Harris returned from Portland Sunday.

1918 Fall Season Exceptional Crop Prospects Bright

Gilliam county reports exceptionally favorable fall crop prospects this year with high yields expected in fall grain. Local observer J W Moore notes a coldest temperature of 16 degrees above zero during plowing week, and farmers in Condon and Clem indicate strong grain progress despite early-season weather.

Christmas Eve Program At Nazarene Church

A Christmas program will be given by Sunday School pupils at the Nazarene church on Christmas Eve at 8 o clock. Parents relatives and friends are urged to attend as the young participants present songs prayers scripture readings and recitations followed by a Christmas treat.

Big Wyoming Elk Hunt Ends With Two Large Bulls

In Alpine Wyoming, Clyde Crip and companions joined W Vail for a mountain hunt. They travel from Condon to Montpelier Idaho then to Afton and Willow Creek. The group bags two big elk, one with seven points and another with five, while sharing rough terrain and humorous misadventures.
