Concord Lions Club heard Charles A. Gates discuss Take Care of Your Heart at Howard Johnsons, with Dr. Nicholas Albanese presiding. The club outlined upcoming events including home football game concessions, light bulb campaign, October membership drive, and a zone meeting at Bedford Airport.
Arthur J. Guillemette, 33 of Lowell, convicted of assaulting Frederick Taylor Jr., a guard at the Massachusetts Institution for Correction in West Concord. sentenced to additional terms of 15 to 20 years and 8 to 10 years for the July attack. Guillemette is a lifer, previously jailed for a 1951 murder. Taylor was hospitalized for days after the incident.
Concord residents Mr and Mrs Edward J McCaffrey of Laurel street marked their 18th wedding anniversary on Thursday of last week. They wed at St Bernard's Church and have two daughters. Mrs McCaffrey formerly Carmel Healy. AEC Boy Scouts Troop No 43 of West Concord met again Monday evening and planned several winter events. John H Duston is scout master.
Concord chamber discusses Yankee Homecoming project to attract visitors in 1958. A committee to be appointed by President John K. Damon will study feasibility. The plan targets historic sites in Boston Lexington and Concord and aims to benefit local business and people.
Concord Gordon H Ogilvie executive vice president and treasurer of the Concord Cooperative Bank was elected to the board of directors at a recent corporate meeting held at the Ocean House New Hampshire Swat Gordon H Ogilvie and Lawrence H Marston presided Other directors elected include W Tatro and Harold Y Beastall re-elected for three years Milton A Barrett Russell P Brown Henry H Pierce and Nathan L Whitten also named as re-elected directors of the Cooperative Central Bank.
An important public hearing will be held tonight at 8 oclock in the new Carlisle school auditorium. The Carlisle planning board will decide on proposed regulations and by laws concerning removal of soil loam sand gravel and other earth materials. After the hearing the board may seek a special town meeting to adopt the regulations. Chairman Henry B Hosemer and Clerk Richard Warren are noted.
Veteran Sergt. Thomas Y. Finan of Willows Street retires from Concord police after more than three decades of municipal service. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II, returned in 1945, became sergeant in 1955, and earlier worked at the municipal light plant and as a guard at Massachusetts State Prison. He is married to Maud Cameron and they have two daughters and several grandchildren.
Middlesex Superior Court heard a petition led by the Walden Committee of about 100 residents seeking an order to stop the county commissioners from proceeding with the 50 thousand dollar project. They oppose paving and the 100 foot bath house near the Emer Estate land, arguing it would desecrate the area and violate land-use terms. The case followed prior hearings and public comment on recreation facilities and the Walden site.
Concord residents will again roll pennies for UNICEF this Halloween after raising 625 dollars last year. The effort features a color film A Gift to Grow On narrated by Garry Moore, shown to launch the campaign and promote the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund.
The Concord DeMolay Chapter holds its next regular meeting Friday night September 27 at the Masonic Temple with Degree work in order. Councilor Donald Brestlick will preside and a collation will follow.
