Maynard aimed at Cox and Fitzgerald in a tight primary with Cox defeating Allen 3 to 1. Fitzgerald carried nearly every Democrat who voted except three, while Selectman Carlton won his town and Boxboro by large margins, though he lost the district by 73 votes. Glazier rode four years in office to a district battle. Lodge carried Maynard for U S Senator, and Whipple edged Gaston by one vote.

Maynard Resident Dies at Hayfield After Fall at Work
Joseph Rogers a longtime Acton resident died Friday afternoon near Parmenter Crossing from a cerebral hemorrhage while loading hay. He was found unconscious on a loaded wagon by Robert Whitney and Daniel Parmenter and died about a half hour later at home of Michael Ennegus with medical examiner Dr Walcott citing the hemorrhage. He leaves two brothers Edward and John and had been living on Nason Street in Acton. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Morse home with Rev Daniel Angell officiating and burial in Glenwood cemetery.

Anurac Grange held a Friday evening meeting in UG hall that served as a reception for Harvey Wheeler and West Concord school teachers, the Supt of Schools, Parent Teachers Association and School Committee. The program featured the Colby Olsen and Taylor committees with piano violin and vocal numbers, readings, and a musical sketch. Refreshments followed then dancing as plans formed for a Sept 20 visit to TanEion Grange and Sept 22 degree work for candidates.
