Maynard man meets famous explorer at Wiscasset reception
Richard Hilferty son of Mr and Mrs A A Hilferty was a guest of Donald McMillan at his Wiscasset Maine home. While McMillan was in Labrador the Hilfertys and Don reserved camp radio links from Hudson. Messages were relayed to McMillan and he invited the young operators to join his expedition at Christmas Cove for the welcome in the home port. Hilferty is a radio operator for The New York Times and was considered to join Byrd on his Antarctic expedition.
