Watch Stolen Then Recovered After Pawn Shop Tale

Alden Specht, an employee at a tannery, reported a watch stolen in March from his vest in the engine room. The watch was later found by his wife, but Specht failed to inform the police. He later swapped the watch for a dollar at a Boston pawn shop to buy a pen, then attempted to redeem the watch but was told the police still held it. He sought a letter from Officer Magorty to recover it, which was not provided. The piece ends with a travelogue of the Hudson River excursion from Boston to New York City aboard the Day Line and Fall River Line, offering a five dollar round trip with a two day stopover option.
